I'm looking for a tranny shop on behalf of a friend. She needs her Subaru tranny rebuilt or purchase a rebuilt unit so if anyone has any recommendations, I'd like hear it.

Thanks.

Ali,
I had a good experience with The Auto Clinic on San Pedro, they rebuilt the tranny in my Tahoe and I was very happy. Nice people to work with as well.

A coworker had a good experience with Matsco. My experience was ok once I got over the idea of paying somebody to work on my car and the shock of the cost of doing so.

cool, thanks for the info gents.

I'm right there with you on this one. I'll do anything and everything on my vehicles, but tearing down an auto tranny is where I draw the line and pay someone else to. The guy that did my daughter's Honda tranny said it wasn't rocket science and not that hard once you did a few though.

i've done a 700R4. they aren't real difficult animals. some special tools are kinda needed. that said, i never got the 700r4 to work right. i think another time or 2 doing it with someone who knows more about them than me would do it.

I've done manuals trannys but never an auto one. Who knows, maybe I'll try this one and then take the box o' parts down to the shop if I fail miserably!

my problem was i fixed/rebuilt it, put it back in and it slipped a ton. took back out, redid the whole thing(only replaced the worn clutch packs), and put back in and it still slipped.:bang: took it to the shop.

i suspect it had something to do with the little check balls in the valve body. my manual may have been showing me the wrong places or # of balls to put in, for a different year 700r4.

I'd contact Ryan Eklund and see who he uses.

My transmission experience is limited to motorcycles. They are fairly simple and easy to lift by yourself.
