Hey all,
was jsut digging around under the rig, checking the leaks out, and what I thought was a rear main seal leak...appears to be tranny fluid.
I popped off the fly wheel dust cover on the bottom of the bell housing...The fly wheel is dry as a bone. This has alwyas been a really small drip. Where might this be coming from?
There is a mess of tranny fluid under there NOW, but I think that is from the gasket when i serviced it.
However, the one at the front of the AT bell housing is perplexing.

Thanks,

Chicago

bump for the tranny leak question!
Again, its where the tranny mates to the engine, looks like a rear main leak.

See pic below, if yours is leaking from the same place mine was, it is the seal in the front bearing retainer and the gasket. Needless to say, the tranny has to come out. A lot of work for just a little seal, I decided to change clutch and everything else while I had the tranny out.

SHHHIIIIT! I was hoping I wouldnt have to do that!!!!
Anything else I should do while the tranny and t case are out of the rig? I do have tranny fluid in the t case too. What a mess!
What is the easiest way to get the upper bolts out of the bell housing? Looks like a bitch to get em out of there.
Any ideas?
Ive never pulled a tranny before, so any info would be appreciated!

Best advice I can give is, have a couple of willing freinds eager to help and replace everything while your in there, Rear Main seal, clutch, flywheel turned, T/O bearing, pilot bearing, etc. Although more expensive, because the work involved, your better off getting OEM parts. When I did mine, I had never done it before, overall it's not to bad, but time consuming. Give yourself a couple days to finish all the work. Make sure and order two of the rear main seals and the tranny seals, you want to make sure you have a back-up in case you ruin one.

Good luck-

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Hey,
THanks again for responding...
I have a 62 with an auto tranny...Im thinking that makes a difference.
Does the auto tranny have the same seal to fail?
Friends? Eager to help? BAAAHAAAHAAAHAAA!
The only friend that I have, besides my wife, is my dog, and i dont think hes gonna be much use to me...
Hell be great at stealing my tools, chewing up any hoses and stuff like that.:D
