I need to fix a leaking brass line located at the passenger side bottom of the radiator. I couldn't find a part number or anything for it. I am hoping I can just replace the fitting and I will NOT be disclosing how I managed to damage it  (stupid is as stupid does).

Any help would be appreciated!!!

Sure sounds like a "Call Dan ASAP" issue to me...

That's on my list for tomorrow, I was hoping someone had some input on it before then. I saw something about CDan vacationing, hopefully he hasn't left yet :D

If you need it right fricken yesterday, as I always do, try NAPA or a radiator shop. Bring the old one with you.

What Spike said. You're stuck...that Transmission Oil Cooler (TOC) is built into the plastic lower tank. You'd have to uncrimp the lower tank. Remove/replace the TOC and O-rings (which I don't know if you can actually purchase those things separately), and then buy new lower tank gasket, crimp the tank back on.

Therefore, get the new rad. If CDan is out, maybe a local dealer will provide the TLCA discount dealio? (Or even American Toyota of Albuquerque?)

Good luck!

Truckasaurus gave me the details that I didn't want to hear! I guess new rad is the worst case scenario at this point.

I put up a couple of better pictures and my question again is this: Can I just unscrew the outer fitting and replace it? It looks that simple to me and before I tear into it I was hoping someone else had the answer. I understand Truckasaurus' explanation of the internal O-rings and such but it just looks like I wouldn't have to tear into that far. But is anything really that easy :crybaby:

Thanks CPJONES, I ordered it for $5.20 here and it will ship up from L.A. on Monday or so. $5 is worth trying to fix it before dropping the coin on a new rad. Time to switch the kids seats into the 60 for a bit.

I didn't know there was an extended fitting on the TOC! :o

For all of you have experienced that leaker, well, I hope to never walk in your shoes!

Good luck, and thank goodness I was wrong...

(this one time! :flipoff2: )

Be gentle taking the old one off and putting the new one on, muscles! :grinpimp:

I will be gentle...gentle enough to know the difference between $5 and $500 if I'm not :D

Here is the damaged fitting off of the rig. I am trying to find out whether the part I ordered is just the nut or if it includes the brass/copper tubing which is actually the damaged part. I was not able to go down to my local Toyota parts counter to verify the part with the picture from their computer.

in the diagram it is the whole piece, tube & nut, but the part is called "NUT"

Sweet, thanks!

If the part is available, replace is right. If not, brass can be braised. I'd choose replace anyday of the week especially at $5.00
