My friends from IL volunteered me to show them some trails near Farm. Of course, I haven't a clue so I'm asking for some ideas. If you know of any trails, internet links, GPS coordinates, etc, please let me know. I'll be heading up there Monday morning.

Theres a bunch of trails just outside of town, I really don't know how to direct you to them, we had a trail leader. I will see if I can get his number for you, he's a member on FJCruiser forums.
i think it is called the "Glade Run Recreation Area". search that with Farmington and you should get it. it's mostly just play obstacles. not many trail trails. A "Chokecherry Canyon" search may get some info too. HTH.
Take the highway that goes from Farmington to Aztec, 516 I think. Head west on Pinon Hills Blvd. It has a stop light. I believe there's a Lowe's and a Ford Dealership at that intersection. Pretty much any road that heads to the north from Pinon Hills will get you into the area. But the main entrance/exit is Glade Road which is basically just a dirt road that for the most part follows along or in a dry riverbed. It's probalby about 2 miles west of hwy 516. Then head north. If you encounter 30th St, La Plata River or La Plata Hwy (170), you went too far and need to turn around. It's a pretty wide dry river bed that you shouldn't miss.
Most of the IROC stuff happens in various places about 5 miles north of the pavement. Just look for well worn trails and rocks. There are probably hundreds of roads and makeshift trails that criss-cross the area. The best stuff I remember was to the west of the dry river bed. The entire area is called Choke-Cherry Canyon but sometimes also referred to as 'The Glade'.
Your best bet may be the NM TTORA forum. There are a few guys who live in the area up there. I've been out a few times up there. I will see if I can find GPS Coords.
Plus, I asked a buddy of mine who organized the Farmington, NM TTORA Take Over there last summer for his GPS coords. He just moved so it may be a few days before he can get to the files.

Thanks for the link to the Glade map. It did get us there but wasn't useful when it came to finding the trails we heard about. I asked one of the oil drilling company employee where the trails are and he pointed us directly to them. We found Cobra, Seven Waterfall, RJ's trail, Rock garden and the Rim trail. We did them all except the waterfall and Rock Garden. I'm gonna need an achor vehicle up top before attempting that one!! The guys may end up doing the Rock Garden today.
The Glade area is definitely worth going to as it's quite the spread! This is an active gas and oil drilling area so you got trails going to just every which direction. Some of the washes are interesting to drive through with the occasional waterfall climbs.
Edit: Carnage report: Rover's pass rear axle broke after the ARB was engaged. Sven in the LX450 got tagged on the right rear Q-panel, near the tail light. His oem front, rear bumpers and side steps just kept bouncing back after each hit. It was amazing and comical at the same time. We were joking that Sven should round up all the other side steps and just keep swapping out after they get damaged.
There are also some excellent single track trails for mountain bikes and motorcycles on the east side of the Glade area. I found a lot of large pieces of petrified wood along them when I lived up there and used them regularly.
If we ever want to put together something organized, my brother-in-law knows that area very well and I'm sure he'd love to lead us, as long as we get over his affinity for Jeeps. It is a far enough drive that it would probably be a good idea to make it an overnighter. When I drove between ABQ and Farmington regularly (550 was already completed) it took just under 3 hours from my house on the north side of Farmington to my in-laws' house near Wyoming and Spain. That was driving the speed limit. That's a lot of driving for a day trip.
Ali - did you make it a day trip or did you stay overnight in the area?
...and then Rory ran to PickNPull after work to pull out a set of axles out of a '98 D1 and then handed them to us after we came down from Farm. Ron, Sven and I were VERY grateful for Rory's efforts. Ron in the D1 was happy to continue his vacation with the family.
