Trails in the Area.

We are considering re-locating from Northern Nevada to the S Ore coast, probably around Brookings or Gold Beach.

What kind of trails will we find?

It would be nice to have at least a few trails that would challenge my FJ40. We also like more moderate trails suitable for our SUA FJ60 and UZJ100.

Also do you guys ever do club trips to Rubicon or Fordyce?

Tons of fire roads etc to explore between the Rogue Valley and coast. Good snow wheeling in the winter. Nothing as challeging as the Rubi or close. There is the McGrew trail that has a couple little sluices to wheel and long rocky bumpy the rest.

As a club we have not made it down there. Last year 6 club guys headed up the to the Tillamook State Forest outside of Portland to join the Cascade Cruisers "Cruising the Woods" event and will attend again next year. (Great PNW wheeling).

The dunes north of Gold Beach are a lot of fun. We have chatted getting a club run/camping weekend there some weekend.

Most of us live mainland, but we have a couple members that live over the coast.

We have the McGrew Trail which is between Brookings and Grants Pass. Our club does an official TLCA run on it every year as well as a couple of club fun runs on it. Our club heads up to Cruisin the Woods event which is just out of Portland. We have yet to make any club runs south for more. We also have a club member located in Brookings.

I grew up doing the logging roads around Gold Beach, almost every Sunday we went for a family ride. I was hoping for something a tad more challenging.

Can't say I'm excited about living on the coast again but everyone in the family that has never lived there thinks it's a great idea. I'd rather live inland a few miles.

This may be the year I talk my wife into doing the McGrew run. The 100 is lifted with sliders, 33's and F&R lockers would it be suitable for that trail? We could take the 60 or the 40 but it would be a long ride from Reno to GP in either of those trucks.

Ya the 100 would be just fine . With a little careful driving stockers can make it no problem.

And there are some places to play, but not really trails, more like drive to play in a particular area.

You'll have no problem doing McGrew in the Hundy. Even most of the obstacles.

I've heard that off the McGrew trail there's one called "mild to wild" that gets pretty gnarly. Can't find anyone who knows where it is though (only people I know who have been on it did so accidentally, and had no business being there).

There's not really a ton of stuff around the Rogue Valley area that's technical (Rubicon like), the Forest Service does too darn good a job maintaining the roads. That being said, Rubi is only about 7 hours away, as is Tillamook state forest which has a ton of wheeling, so you're centrally located to head north or south.
