Has anyone upgraded the OEM connector to allow for both 4/5 pin trailer light and the round 7 pin ones?

I find it annoying to have to pull the adaptor in and out with various trailers. Every other car I know (my wife's Tahoe, my son's Tacoma, etc) has both from the factory.

I know someone is going to reply with an aftermarket plug in and say I just should just use that. I am more interested in, for instance using an OEM one from a Sequoia and wiring it in. Anyone done that?

Good idea. I need both and I don’t like leaving the 4 pin adapter in the 7 pin receptacle because it’s not well sealed. Get that part in your post, wire it in, fasten it down, and report back so I can copy you. :bounce:

Subscribed. I have an aftermarket Hopkins adapter with both 7 and 4 pin that I have used heavily for years, but I agree it isn't OEM levels of quality. Interested to see what others have come up with.

I wish it was out in the bumper hitch area rather than a hands and knees search underneath.

I just have 7 to 5 pin converter in bag with hitch pin, tow straps, soft shackles, air compressor, battery jump starter, and hitch. I have bag like this in my truck and LC. I do not keep the hitch in all time only put it in to tow. All three boats are 5 pin. Parent camping trailer is 7pin and I have one of those 7pin blue tooth brake controllers for LC and wired brake controller in my truck. Nothing I tow has 4 pin so don't have anything like that.

There is an aftermarket option... You should just use that!!!

Ok, someone had to be that guy J/K

Subscribed and also curious

You can buy an aftermarket one that comes with the bracket and back connector with pigtail. Test fit Tundra connector into the bracket and pig tail first. Then drill the bracket to fit the holes in the frame for 200 bracket. The wiring is the easy part as at least on LX there is a short harness you can disconnect and replace the OEM connector with the pig tail.
This assumes that all these connectors are the same. Not sure there is a standard but it seems like there is.
I installed such a device on my Subaru and I got it from eTrailer.

If you do what I described above you can find a closer place to drill the holes in the frame rather than the bracket and extend the pigtail to reach the truck harness.
