Yes, I'd take the signal from the connector back there. Of course, you are going to double check if this is the correct plug. You can probably even buy the OEM connector, if you don't already have one plugged into it. Let us know how it goes, I might just go the same route as my trailer turn signals seem to be intermittent, using the OE converter box.

Good idea about the connector, I'll reuse the one from my old harness that has gone out. The only thing I'm wondering about is the feedback. What causes the feedback? If I run off this connector, would I still run into feedback problems?

My best guess would be that it's a short somewhere or a problem with the OE converter box (which you'll be removing). Cross your fingers!

Actually the box under my truck isn't oem converter. I don't think truck comes with converter with the earlier years? The harness I bought was from drawtite and two times I replaced the box. So I'm hoping third time will be the charm... with new short proof box.

I'll report back after this weekend.

All right here's the preliminary report.

I cut the old harness out but left the old connector in place. I ran tests to confirm that the wires are correct and still working. I saw that it does... so I went ahead and soldered old connector to the new converter. Then temporarily ran the power to battery outside the truck. I hooked up small trailer and I'm happy to see there was no feedback (usually I see dash feedback with this trailer).

I'll try connecting the other trailer tomorrow to ensure no feedback from this one. If everything goes well, I'll need to buy dielectic grease, wire sleeves and then tuck these underside the truck.

Will report back.

I fed them through a frame rail to the other side and then up through a grommet to the space behind the DS tail light. There I used double stick tape to attach the converter and fed back down to a hitch plug.:cheers:

I did the same thing using the inside of the box frame. I fished the wiring through to the the back of using the fish-tape from the front end, then pulled wire (with sleeve).

Now everything works. No feedback. The power is protected by the in-line fuse. I'll need to clean up the battery/engine area. I'll do that when I return back from my vacation.

The first picture is the area where I attached the converter. Used the self tapping screws to the rear of the bumper. 2nd picture is the rear of frame where I ran the wire through. Last picture front end of the vehicle frame... I then ran the wire up the radiator to the battery.
