Trailer Connection Help, Please

OK, let me start by saying I'm most likely the least mechanically inclined person on this forum so I'll just use layman language.

I went looking for a place to plug in my 7-pin trailer connector yesterday and, guess what? It appears the flagship vehicle with an 8100 pound towing capacity does not come with the hardware necessary. Not only that, the parts and service people at three different dealerships have no idea on what to do about it - as in I was told to go to a "trailer place" to have the work done. This is the same advice I got from the 1-800 number Toyota experts by the way.

All I want to do is connect this:

Did you purchase your Land Cruiser new? Toyota supplies the vehicle with a 7 pin female plug and bracket to mount it.

I would be surprised if it weren't there on a new vehicle - and even more surprised that three dealers did not know how to resolve the issue if it is indeed missing

It's a 2013 that I bought used from Toyota (executive demo) with 16K miles on it. They originally received it in May 2012.

Are you sure about the female plug and bracket being supplied to all LCs sold in the US? Two different dealerships and the phone people at Toyota looked up my VIN and said that part is not listed as standard equipment. One dealership printed out a wiring diagram based on my VIN showing the plug and harness, but I was told that just because it's on there doesn't mean it was supplied - apparently the diagram also lists all accessories.

I'm so pissed at myself for not looking for it before buying. I would have made supplying and installing everything a condition. Now it's going to be $$$$$.

The connector came with mine and it was NOT an option - in fact, there were NO factory options on the 2013's as far as I know; you either bought it fully loaded, or you didn't buy it.

Have the dealership look up my VIN and see if it shows anything different from yours - although I expect they should be the same.

Sounds like maybe during the time yours was an "executive demo" it was scavanged for parts to fix someone else's problem ... :whoops:

mines a 2013 and came with it, your right, there are no "options" on the 2013 model, they come fully loaded, although there are what they call "dealer add ons" which pretty much amounts to remote starting and all weather floor mats...

ask them to take a look at their own website and then ask where it is on your rig, it's a 2013 LC, it says the tow package is standard equipment

There should be two plugs under the rear end on the passenger side of the spare tire. The trailer plug harness is a separate part that connects to those two plugs and the bolts to the rear cross member. My trailer plug harness came in a baggy in the glove box and I had to install it myself. The dealer was utterly useless (a function of them rarely, if ever, seeing a LC200). Look underneath your vehicle and see if you have the two plugs (mine were plugged into dummy connectors to keep mud and grime out). Everything was basically 'plug and play' once I hooked up the trailer plug and mounted it.

Just went out and looked at mine. The label is still on the trailer plug harness since I only installed it a few months ago. The part number is 82169-60080 (the second line of the label says A00). I'm not sure if you need that part, but the Toyota dealer should be able to at least look it up.

I've also attached a pic of my trailer plug installed. Again, rear area on the passenger side near the spare tire. It's a bit of a stretch for some trailer cables.

I believe the part you have goes from the dash to your brake controller, when installed. I have one of those, but never used it (yet).

Is that what was in the glovebox? Doesn't seem like it would fit.
