well, and this is not totally unexpected, I first hooked a trailer (with battery) to our '03. And as was described earlier by somebody else, there is a problem with the trailer package on the 100. The trailer battery is keeping some accessories in the 100 alive even with the key out (things like the odo, the A/C fan etc).
Not good!
There is an issue with a relay missing someplace.
There was a TSB on something somewhat similar but not quite same.
Will see what dealer says...

Wow that's a little unsettling. Let us know what your fix is.

Check to see if your converter box is still good. On my ’98 it had gone bad due do bad design. Toyota fixed that problem by locating the converter to a new location. Make sure that the wiring problem is not on the trailer ;-/

what's this converter supposed to do again?

anyway, I sorta fixed the problem. Worst of it anyway. I installed a relay on the battery charge line just before the socket. Unfortunately, I did not have time to find a true hot-on ignition-only wire for the signal. Just used the power outlet in the luggate compartement which is hot with ignition on and cold with key off. This way, no more power with key off. The not best part is that with the key on the first notch I still have back power from the trailer. But eh, that's just while turning it.
So, should be fine until I get time to tear the dash out...

thanks
Eric
