I have some friends staying in Pagosa and wanted to take them out on a short 4x4 run tomorrow. I've never gone out around Pagosa so wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations.

I drove out to Williams Lake campground one evening. Not what I’d call a trail, but definitely scenic.

Never been on it but might investigate Elwood Pass.

Thanks, guys. I read some about Elwood Pass online. The photos look AMAZING!

Elwood Pass is pretty! Its more of an out and back!

About how long would you need to drive to get into the scenic stuff (e.g. long views, waterfalls)? Or is it pretty from the start? I'll have limited time tomorrow as I have to leave in time to get back to Durango to pickup the kids from school. I promised my friends I would take them out on a trail if they came out this way, but for some reason they didn't plan to stay any weekend days, so I'm playing hooky from work tomorrow to try and squeeze in a quick trail ride.

It has been a couple of years since I have been up there but it is pretty as soon as you start. I would give yourself 4-6 hours if possible off the highway. You can feel it out based on the group's needs.

In the future, I know there is a way to connect it to the pop-out on 160 by Tucker's Pond on the other side of wolf creek. Could be a fun overnight camping trip!
