Trade Trade/for sale feeler - 1996 Nighshadow pearl/cloth w/118k

I picked this up a few weeks ago on a whim, thinking it might be fun to have two 80's. As it turns out, its more redundant than fun, and with only one garage space and not a lot of free time I'm rethinking the notion of building two identical rigs simultaneously.

I'm still waiting on the title from the NYS DMV which could be a few more weeks, but in the meantime thought I'd put out a feeler. I'd be interested in trading for a 40/60/62, or possibly a 100 series. If I end up putting it on ebay I'll likely try to get 11-12k. Asking price here on mud would be 9500.

The rig:
1996 FZJ80 with 118k, unlocked, totally stock except for crappy aftermarket speakers and a weather tech cargo liner. Everything works although the e-brake needs to be adjusted. Extremely clean cloth interior and headliner, third row seats are present. No noises from the suspension although the shocks could stand to be replaced at some point; knuckles have an appropriate amount of grease (not soupy) and no clicking from the birfs. Exhaust is stock and quiet, pads and rotors were just replaced at all four corners as was the alternator, belts, and battery. Engine is smooth and powerful(for an 80), tranny and t case shift as they should. Tune up is new as is the oil. I'd be comfortable driving this 80 anywhere. The paint is good at 10 feet, but could definitely have been better cared for. Drivers side was likely resprayed. Essentially no body rust. Undercarriage has what I would consider less than average surface rust for a NE rig, and the frame is completely solid. The only significant rust is on the undersides of the running boards - which I would have removed were they not extremely clean and intact from above and the side.

The carfax indicates that it's spent most of its life in southern NY, seeing relatively little use. As for service records, aside from the carfax indicating it was serviced at toyota dealerships until 2005, I do not have any. The guy I bought it from was selling it for his father and didn't know anything about what he had. He did tell me that the oil was changed regularly, garage kept most of the time, and not driven daily. I've put about 300 miles on it so far and and am confident its a solid rig with a solid, low milage motor. There is a slight weep from the rear main, but not something I'd address anytime soon. Valve cover is dry.

Feel free to ask any questions/request specific pictures and I'll do my best to accommodate. Again, this is a preliminary sale/trade feeler as the title is still pending from the DMV.

In the interest of transparency, when I first got the truck I wire brushed and rust-reformed some of the surface rust areas on the chassis. I know this is frowned upon by some on this forum, but I'm more comfortable driving around in winter conditions with some degree of protection from road salt. Not trying to mislead anyone. Also, an accident was reported on the carfax 17 years ago. Title is clear, and this was likely minor.

To summarize whats been done since I bought it:

Alternator, belts, battery, all four rotors and pads, various interior and exterior bulbs, wipers, new fender flare gaskets, and center caps.

In terms of what could be addressed:
Speakers
Shocks
AC compressor is whiny but works fine. I don't use AC often and would probably just remove the belt if I were keeping it to quiet things down.

Regards,

Luke

That's the one that was on CL for $5200. According to the Carfax, it was in an accident in 2000.

Yes, an accident was reported in 2000. The title is clean, and the result of said accident was in all likelyhood a minor one.

You have the two most rare 80 series colors in your stable. And my two favorite colors. The rare blue, and the rare pearl gray. Both look great side-by-side in that garage pic. GLWS.

Cool, man. Not trying to On your thread. You mentioned full transparency and just thought people should know. I was gonna go see this one, but it went quickly. Good luck with sale!

Interesting find, and if you got it around $5k seems like a great deal...I wish it had grown up in CA/AZ/NM instead though..

Sure you don't want to sell the one on the left?
