First post. I have the opportunity to trade my 2012 highlander SE with 69000 miles for a 2010 GX460 with 147000 miles on it for $19000?

I’ll be hinest, I didn’t know the GX460 existed when I bought the highlander 6 months ago. Otherwise I would have gotten a gx460 back then. The bad part is I am underwater on the highlander so I’d have to add 5k to the price of the gx460.

Do you think it is worth it to get a reliable truck based SUV with rear entertainment for the kiddos? Or keep the bland crossover?

Want vs Need. However, sometimes you need what you want ;)

You have a great, reliable rig now. Comfortable and uber reliable. Only down side is that it's not great off road and has next to zero aftermarket, I imagine, for cool add ons. And you can get killer rear seat entertainment systems from the aftermarket, if thats your thing. Dad made us look out the window, read or sleep, but I digress...

The benefit with the GX is it will always be cool, will always enjoy somewhat limited availability, and therefore a solid used market.

Have you driven a GX much? They go down the road a little differently and the body on frame has some wonkiness, but if you don't mind that, you'll love it more as time rolls.

If you are wanting a weekend warrior rig, maybe keep that Highlander and get and old 4runner for a lot less $ and don't worry about using it.

Turns out my bank doesn’t want to roll that much from my previous loan into the GX460. So a moot point for now.

I already have a 2016 Tacoma that at worst goes on logging roads. I fell in love with the way the truck feels and handles. And 4wd has been great when we get snow here. The highlander is a great people hauler but hey carlike, so I wanted to get something more similar to my truck and also something that can tow a little more so we can get a trailer in a couple years.

Looks like I need to pay off more of the highlander before I can make the switch. I’m sure another cheapish GX460 will show up when I’m ready.
