B- Nope, could never justify installing a center diff in the ol' POS. The gear thing seems to work well (it's the piston blow-by that gets old). That would cost more than the '40 herself. I think this is a potato-potatoe thing. In the 80, a CDL switch would be my first recommendation. The pin-7 mod would techically be way down on the list (though it only takes a couple minutes to do).

My opinion is this: TC is an oustanding concept that, if tested correctly under controlled variables, proves to be superior to all other forms or traction systems. The problem is this: most drivers are reactive and most drivers, no matter what is under their control, will not make the right decisions right before an impact or under loss of control. This is exactly why TC works under study but not under normal conditions. You have to understand your machines mechanics regardless of traction systems and regardless of braking systems. If you come across ice on a turn at 45 mph, no system is going to stop you from taking a hit. Likewise, if you have to stop abruptly at 40-45 mph due to someone slamming on their brakes, ABS and TC will not help you i.e. they might have saved you 10 feet but that is just not enough. Point being that the best vehicle is any vehicle that you can control. I just do not see TC increasing the safety levels on the road. In theory it will, but not in practice. In terms of off road, stopping a spinning wheel with ABS seems worthless. Again, nice thought but why do we need it? Really. Some mechanics, unless completely reshaped in theory, cannot be bettered i.e. a full time 4wd system with a locked front and rear. Just my .02 but I feel it is just another market differentiator and that the positives are likely paper based. One positive is that it stops the auto makers from having to make/provide locking diffs.

TC, by definition, doesn't work until some momentum is lost. It is, therefore, inferior to solid selectable lockers when forward movement is the critical factor.
