I got a 2008 gx470 recently and want to get the TPMS light off. Im assuming batteries are dead in all original sensors. Do I need to get a TPMS sensor for the spare tire also to get the dash light to go out?

My car is new to me and I dont know if it does or doesnt. Do i need to gwt a 5th tpms sensor for my gx470 to make the light go out?

drop the spare dowm and if it has a metal valve stem theres a sensor, if its rubber it most likely dosnt. and yes if theres 5 sensors you would need to replace all of them to get the light to go out

Is it different for some cars? I thought this was the gx470 forum is it not the same on all gx470s? Are some gx470s programmed differently than others? And the only way to know is to inspect the spare valve stem? I just bought the car used with 200,000 mi no clue if its the original spare.

Most any tire shop should be able to scan all of the sensors for you and determine which ones are working fine, have a low battery, or a totally dead, and then replace them as needed. In my 2007, 4 out of 5 of the sensors were either low-battery or non-responsive. You could just have 1 or 2 that are messed up, or the all could be dead. Tire shops usually stock the sensors. They can't be replaced without at least partially dismounting the tire, so it's not really a DIY-friendly job. I think my shop charged $80 per sensor for the replacement and re-programming of the GX to read them. Since then, it's been super-nice not having the TPMS light on all of the time.

5 new sensors but tpms light is still on. For $30 im going to try replacing this next. I only need 1 of these right?

Anyone know where it lives on the car?
- apparently it is in the glovebox.

Did you have the system programmed to recognize the new TPMS sensors? Even if they are advertised as "pre-programmed", the GX won't automatically recognize them unless a scan tool is utilized to get the Lexus computer to pick them up.

They were supposed to be preprogrammed but the guy at discount tire said he did program them but the dash light wasnt going out. Car is at the dealer getting tran fluid drain and fill or id be looking for the "2nd set" tpms button right now.

The tire shop guy should have been able to tell if they were being recognized by the system or not. You might need Techstream or another advanced reader plugged in to troubleshoot the system.

The A/B button is on the lower driver's side dash.

He said they were, i havent had a chance to drive it 10 miles or fiddle with the 2nd set button yet. Drove straight from tire shop to dealer to have trans filter/fluid, transfer case fluid and PS flush done. Should have it back by Thursday.

Got the car back. Holding this button for 30 seconds did nothing. Driving on the highway 5 miles with the button both in and out also did nothing.

Dropped the panel below the glovebox and a RED tpms computer box was staring back at me.

Parts cannon...FIRE!
