I was heading out to go camping this morning and before I went 1/2 mile my tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) started alarming. It said my front driver tire was done to 21 pounds pressure. I stopped and looked at it and it looked ok to me - until I heard air hissing and saw a two inch crack in the sidewall.
I had just checked all five tires last weekend and they were all 33 psi.
Had the alarm not gone off I would have been on the highway a minute later and things would have been ugly when the tire split completely open.
By the time I drove back to my house I was down to 12.4 psi.
Thanks to my TPMS I avoided a terrible accident at worst, and a highway tire change at best.
Sitting at Discount Tire waiting on new shoes and then back to the camping trip.
