Hey guys, They get all the cool Toyotas here. Landcruiser Pickups, Troopies, Hiluxes, Prados, Fortuners, etc.

Dave,
Any specs on the truck in the picture? Gas, diesel, auto? How much does a new one cost?

Sid

Gas or diesel are available, most are gas. 5 speed only. One cup holder. ;-)

I'm guessing they are horribly dangerous or we would get them in the US. LOL

$35,000 US dollars before haggling.

See there Sid, you got a deal after all!

Thanks Dave for posting, something different is always cool

They probably aren't produced with the crush points in the body, that the US vehicles are pretty much required to have. Course if Im out in a place like that, I don't want my vehicle to fold in half with every rock I drive over. Bet you would get every penny back if you imported a few.

And, they don't have a passenger side airbag, etc.

There is no legal way to import these or someone else would have done it already.

I was just dreaming of having one...

They are coming equipped from the factory with drivers air bags now and are crash, safety & emission compliant to Euro standards which means they can be readily tested to US standards

... if Toyota NA is interested (i.e., considers the business case is justified).

Obviously Toyota NA does not feel there is a sufficent demand to go through the testing and marketing process.

It's my understanding that, as an individual, I can not buy one here and have it imported to the US.

Larry, Is that your understanding as well?

YES in 25 years, that will be the case with current regulations.

If you want one sooner, you better buy extra trucks because it is my understanding that you would need to supply all the assets for the DOT testing (which Toyota would have provided otherwise). The assets will include vehicles for crash testing, engineers to support testing & documentation (i.e., reverse engineering of products to get data required to support testing & documentation because there is no incentive for Toyota to give it to you), registered importer for processing the forms and probably legal help too.

Once, the full list of requirements and costs for an individual to legally import are known the summary will most likely be NO it is not viable.

Just kidding Larry. Everybody knows it's true, it just sucks.

No, I hadn't, Larry. Thanks.

I guess you could bring them in in pieces or simply buy the body and put it on a different chassis.

I'm not sure how hard it would be to make them legal.

Proffitts Cruisers is doing that exact thing, putting them on 60 and 62 chassis. There is a thread in the 70s section by greasecruiser showing them off.

Dave, we will send you a sawz all, some blades and eye protection.... your job, chop one up and ship it back to us. It will be our next club project....:)

Thanks, Sid. I'd have to pay someone like Proffits to extend the frame, etc. It would get pricey. I'm still trying to sell the mini pickup you saw at the Dirty Toy School.

Andrew, do you have a color preference? Your choices are tan or white. BTW, I do very well with a sawzall.

Dave,
That truck is awesome!!!! Wish I had the cash. What are you asking in todays depressed economy?

Sid
