ok ?

Sequoia/Land Cruiser – Yes, you read that right. Toyota could merge its two large SUV nameplates, relegating the Sequoia name to a lower trim level of the Land Cruiser, possibly even the base model. As for which platform will be used, there is debate within Toyota on whether to continue to import the rugged Land Cruiser, which is watered down and luxed up from the versions sold in Australia and the rest of the world, or move the model to the Tundra platform like the current Sequoia. Whatever the case, changes won’t take place until the 2014 model year.

While most of Toyota’s lineup will live on to see a new generation, the Corolla-based Matrix won’t make the cut. The Solara name is also not expected to return, as the next-gen Camry likely won’t get a coupe version. Other models that won’t see major changes anytime soon, whether due to a recent redesign or other reasons, include the Venza, Sienna, FJ Cruiser, 4Runner, Tacoma, and Tundra.

could this mean the end of the land cruiser in the US ?

Report: Toyota Planning 10 New Models to Gain U.S. Sales - Rumor Central

Doesn't surprise me. The Patrol is nothing more than a Armada/QX56. So why not have a shared platform within Toyota? It's a shame but that's the future.

Will be interesting to see what really happens given the rumors that the LX570 isn't changing until after 2015. The automotive press (websites in particular) are pretty speculative and ultimately inaccurate these days. Seems lots of pressure to fill web pages with the latest rumors or any new content to get hits and very little downside when or if they are proven wrong a couple years down the line.

There where rumors out a year ago that Sequoia was going to be cancelled all together in the US, it didn't happen. Perhaps it's death has just been delayed or it wasn't accurate.

I however would love it if they came out with a base model Land Cruiser, even if they did call it Sequoia.

this is the standard 200 series

My sources have informed me that Toyota will kill of the Sequoia and import lower model trim Land Cruisers to North America.

Swap the leather seating for the sport seating thats in the 4Runners.
Swap the central nav computer touch screen for good ole fashioned knobs.
I hate to say it, but loose the heated seats. (I love them on long winter drives).
Loose the faux would trim.
Loose the entertainment system.
Loose the backup camera.
Loose the sunroof.
Loose what else?

Most of these things are nice to have, but do we really need them?
If you could drop 15-20k off the price of a 200LC that would be awesome.

The LC on one end and the CrewMax Tundra on the other could easily fill the void left by the Sequoia being off the market.

Why would Toyota kill their best vehicle:doh:?

I will swear by the virtue of cloth seats from here until Judgement Day, and that change would be welcome in my opinion.

I think they should just bring back the Poverty Pack version Stateside, and stop wasting money on Automatic transmissions!

It's a shame the Matrix is getting cut, my Sister's is probably the best hatch I've driven.

I will agree with you on this, but you have to kill the Sequoia off first.

I would support a 4.6l land cruiser.

Agree with your above points. I'll add some which fit the reduced price aim and some that I'd just like:

-4.5 TD would be a great option alongside the 5.7. No benefit to offering a smaller V8 gasser other than price (which I suppose is the entire point of this thread but please humor me!) but I'd buy the V8 diesel in a heartbeat

-Possible stick to reduce price by a couple of grand(though this would likely be a money loser for Toy though as few would pick it)

- standard 17 inch wheels with A/Ts would inch the price down in theory (though makers seem to have a way of using similar to up the price)

-Crawl is a neat enough feature but I'd be fine with it being optional

-lose the keyless entry and start. It doesn't work as well as rivals' and it's a needless complication (though even base models in ROW have it I believe). If it stays, then allow car to be locked while running and you are simply jumping out to the ATM or similar so don't want to shut it down.

- optional bigger tank like the LC200's 138 liter unit in Australia (though this would add money and no SUVs appear to be offered with plus tanks in the US)

-optional third row seating

By the way, great point about how there is little accountability for inaccurate stories by "professional" automotive websites. Magazine are also getting increasingly far-fetched in order to compete. I'm skeptical about the original report at first thought but haven't done any additional reading on it so it may have some foundation.

NOBODY in the US wants a POC diesel in their SUV. OK...less than 1%.

Research data on Cafe 2025 and 56MPG reveals very LITTLE increase in diesel powered vehicles in the US.

I want a Toyota turbo diesel and all my friends want Toyota diesels.

Everyone I know would like a diesel as their commuter car. I have friends with a the Audi 2.0tdi, X5d and GL350 CDI- all bought new and that's just in the US. In Europe the 535D delivers 313bhp/450lb ft and 50.4 mpg combined from a 3 liter diesel with c.30% lower emissions than the 3 liter petrol. For pure performance cars, I'll take gas but I'd prefer a diesel for everything else. It seems most of Europe agrees.

Anyhow, this will get off-topic fast if we try and convince you of the merits of diesel. You have your view and others have their's.

Any diesel for a Toyota Land Cruiser in the USA will have to based along side a Toyota Tundra diesel, end of story!

The current 4.5 diesel will never sell in North America. Especially at the price premium one would pay over a 5.7. It has been well established that the 5.7 out performs the 4.5 in almost every single way except for MPG.

doesn't the twin turbo diesel have more torque than a 5.7 ?

other than that i would really love it if they make a tundra diesel to compare with the duramex beasts and then later on put the engine on the US spec cruiser ! how ever i doubt that will happen to the tundra this generation , probably the next one .

.

The torque of the 4.5 makes no difference even that it is more. The 5.7 is that good of an engine, every statistical perfromance figure is in favour of the 5.7 except for MPG.

the 4.5 just can't compete against the dual VVTi and 381 horses and 401 lb. Against the 4.7, the 4.5 is a winner
