Is this a dealer installed option or at the port. Just want a specific color but would really like the remote starter if easily added.

Don't do it!!! Toyotas remote start absolutely suck! I love Toyota but American cars have them beat with this one accessory. (It's done at the port to answer your question.)

Here is the issue when you remote start the TLC it's great but once you go to unlock, it shuts off. Now you have to restart the car again to get going where as my Grand Cherokee will allow you just to unlock/hit the start button and go on your way.

It's a dealer installed accessory. The control module installs behind the glovebox, and then IIRC the key needs to be programmed. If you did around a bit online there are installation instructions.

I agree with JtBrown though. I live in Chicago and loved the Python remote start in my older Acura. My 2013 LC came with the Toyota remote starter and I used it only twice this winter, despite the cold. The range sucks (a hundred yards max, unlike the python which let me start my Acura parked 6 floors up in a parking garage 2 blocks away) and the fact that it shuts off the vehicle as soon as you open the door is annoying (the python just required me to insert the key and turn to on). Also there's a 10 minute limit before the vehicle shuts off automatically (not adjustable). Not sure if you can program the defroster or windshield heater to come on too but I doubt it. I've honestly found it's easier to go outside and push start, then get out with the key in my pocket, lock the door, and go inside for a few minutes while it warms up. Without the key fob, the vehicle can't be moved anyway.

Our 2015 has remote start, and the guys are right! The engine shutting off when you open the door is so annoying that I never use the thing.

Yeah as annoying as it is, it's better than getting into a hot/freezing cold car. I used it most mornings this passed winter and will be trying it out this summer with the A/C

It seems like it would still be helpful in extreme climates of hot or cold so your don't freeze or fry.

I bet the local Rent & Roll wheel and stereo shop could do you a solid with a reel remote start that doesn't turn off when a door is opened.

Show them a recent paycheck stub and your install is interest free for 90 days.

Hey guys,

In OZ here, they say my 2016 can't have a remote start??? Reaching out to the family to ask more info. We have the v8TD here. Don't know why it's not standard these days.
Is there a part number for the before mentioned engine??

Cheers

Don't get it as others have said. Total waste of money and the other stupid thing is the warning message that constantly appears on the screen when starting up and again putting in reverse.

Mine was either port or factory installed. Dealer didn't do anything. Remote starter works fine.

Just one more reason I keep my screen in "off" mode.
No warning message wasting my time...and no daily reminder that the map was already out of date 8 years ago. ;)

Just show me other functions...and my reverse camera. Other than that? -Just a nice, clean, smooth, dark screen that doesn't distract from the map on my phone or iPad.

I really want to know what they were thinking. Previous owner ordered it with it. I thought I had to be doing something wrong first time I used it recently. The entire point of the remote start is to a, warm up the engine, and b, reduce wear (by shifting into gear after the engine has warmed up). The idiotic design removes use B entirely. Why not just require proximity of the key remote to unlock the vehicle rather than just shut off?

Most likely afraid of being sued...in the unlikely event that some accidentally steps on the accelerator while getting into the vehicle...and somehow manages to drive forward or backward before they intend.

-Lawsuits suck...

They weren't thinking. I have other Japanese cars, which have OEM auto remote start, and requires the proximity key as you said and it doesn't shut off.
