one of my lifetime goals is to do rally or rally-cross. I wish the focus was AWD!!

When I lived in Colorado Springs got to see the Pikes Peak Hill Climb in person, plus several other local rally races in and around there. The smaller races were the most fun to watch, nothing like a 75 Camaro decked out for off-road, in a full-lock drift around a dirt corner. Fun times!

Im used to driving rear-wheel drive cars. When i bought the race-prepped focus (it was a super-good deal), I wasnt used to driving a fwd car fast. I had an instructor-type guy in my passenger seat and he told me if im getting loose or out of shape just point the steering wheel in the direction you want to go and mash the throttle. This seemed very counter-intuitive to me. About halfway into my session, i trusted him and did it and lo and behold it worked. I was astonished. Granted I had R-compound tires, but i couldn't believe just mashing the throttle and pointing would get me out of a spin-out situation.

That's kind of the way an 80 works when your speeding down a deep sand wash. Back out of the throttle when you go into a turn and the rear end starts to get loose and swing around. Mash the skinny pedal and it hooks up and straightens up Not what you would expect in a large SUV, but it sure is fun!! John
