i have a 72 fj40 that i want to put a chevy 350 in. will the toyota four speed transmission handle that motor?

Hi All:

The Land Cruiser H41/42 four-speed transmissions can handle a SBC just fine.

Spend some time searching here on MUD; there is a lot involved in doing a V8 swap into a FJ40.

Good luck!

Alan

Yes it can.

Huntsman522, send me your mailing address for a freebie V8 instruction manual.

Throw a 3FE into it...save the SBCs for the junkyard....the 40's need the additional weight up front anyways :)

A lot goes into it, as stated above with any motor swap...do your homework on here....there's a good following for SBC mudders!

ok so now that that question is answered, what about running gear. i know the toyota axles r strong but should i put chevy 1/2 ton in it? or maybe evn bigger than that?

40 axles are plenty strong. 14 years w a 300 hp 350 with our problems. The weakest link are the birthfields, and the can be upgraded with long fields or similar.
