So as you fellas know Ive been running the taco 4.10 diff with e-locker in my Rover for the past year. Well, it's screaming at neutral throttle on the freeway.... :crybaby:

Sounds to me like the pinion bearings are taking a S#$T

When I put it all together I had to remove the pinion flange, and swap it out with a re-drilled one to fit the rover driveshaft. A lot of guys said to just tighten it down to the same spot it was, and that should be fine. Well, I think that has come back to bite me in the ass. The crush sleeve is a one time deal and Im paying for it now.

now I'm not sure what to do...

new pinion bearings? new R&P all together? find another used Diff (which i'll have to swap out the flange anyways....)

I'm sorry to hear this. You sure have had your share of luck with diff's. Good luck.

Matt,

I, about 10-miles from Albuquerque last spring, had the rear pinion bearing go out. The R&P were fine. Scott at ABQ Clutch and Gear reset the R&P along with a machined spacer for the pinion and everything's been fine since.

Get it apart and inspect the damage and go from there. I can't recommend anyone around Reno or most certainly Sacramento (long story there...)...but maybe someone will chime in for a good diff guy lead.

Thanks guys.

Dan, I've heard the machined spacer is the best way to go. I'm pretty sure its the pinion bearing since its the same as the other diffs that had pinion problems. Ill pull the diff out and go from there.

Smash is a good guy, ill probably give him a call.

That really sucks. Your gears are probably fine. Does sound like you need new pinion bearings and a spacer/crush sleeve.

Good luck with it, like Jereme said, you seem to have some kind of diff curse.;)

Yeah your telling me... I'm getting fed up with all this for sure. I know it has to do with swapping out those flanges though, so I guess its expected.

I'm going car shopping this week, so hopefully I can find a cheap daily driver and just let the Rover sit until I can fix it.

My boss drives a TRD, so I told him yesterday that if he's not nice to me I'm going to swap diffs on my day off.:grinpimp:
