I ordered my FJ about 3 weeks ago, and barely have had any contact with my Toyota dealer on my purchase. All contact has been initiated by me, and not the dealer. I put a large amount of money down to get my Cruiser, but it seems like they aren't keeping me in touch on my order. Was it the same with everyone else, or did your dealer give you a call once a week to let you know the status of your order etc? I like to know people are working on my orders when I place them, not just sitting idle and just 'waiting' for one with my specs to come along.

Thanks for any responses.

i never heard unsolicited updates from my dealer either, and mine was on order for 3 months. Just be calm and wait it out. It will get here and you will be happy.

In the mean time, figure out what you want to do to it and start making a list. You will survive.

Besides, there is not much they can tell you other than it is being built and eventually its VIN.

Good luck and have fun. :)

Yeah I got a list going..... Man I'm gonna go broke! I got the list for my FJ going, and now my wife wants to modify the Land Rover and I still have my FJ40 restoration plans...... I'll be working forever lol

List, in order of purchase...... so far anyway:

Lowrance Baja 480c GPS

OME suspension lift

BFG Mud Terrains - 33"

ARB bull bar with lights

Sitting back and waiting isn't an easy thing for me, but I guess I just have to pretend I am a kid again and Christmas is just around the corner.... Problem is, I don't have a date to count down to!

*Shakes the large box* Wonder if that's my FJ Cruiser in there.... Nope, it's the guys who wanted the AUTOMATIC.... dang!

I put $500 down in March for the order to go in the first of April.
I have heard zero from them, I have to make the calls to them.

I called yesterday to find out if my rig made the boat for the end of Mays builds, and the sales manager did not have the allocation tables yet telling him if my rig was on the boat.
Most managers had a huge party to attend Friday, so they were behind.

He said to call him this coming Wednesday to see if he had a VIN # for me, or they would call me sooner if it made the boat.

Ticking me off it is taking so long.

Heck, I already have the 4 set of the nice Outdoor style rubber FJ Cruiser floormats, the rear carpeted (did not want the rubber one back there) cargomat, new CB acc. sitting in my living room, and a pair of Bentup sliderz will be on their way soon.
They are at AJ's powder coater now waiting to get back to him for shipment to me.

I ordered mine on april 3rd, after 8 weeks the sales guy call and said " I think we have a problem" The dumb A$$'s never ordered it. Then I was told they could not find me one, with the options I wanted and they would have to reorder it.
After a heated conversation in the showroom, they gave me back my money and I found the exact same one at another dealer.
If I were you I would keep checking Weekly.
P.S. DO NOT BUY FROM CAPITOL TOYOTA IN SAN JOSE

I put $5,500.00 down on mine. I would expect the dealer to call ME once a week to keep me informed. I'll be shipping off here in a week or so and have to give my wife power of attorney to sign for it if it comes in while I am away. I think I am going to go and see the sales manager to see if something can be done about being informed etc. I also would like to know if they ORDERED it and not just looking for one 'coming my way' with the options I ordered (basically everything).

Just give em a call once a week and ask. Gives you something to do and lets them know that you are paying attention. It is worth the wait, which you have probably already determined.

keep us posted

the day i ordered my FJ at the dealership, (early may, 5th or 6th), i was told i would get it by the end of may. i was happy. i call in late may, asking for status....they said it'd be 7 weeks, because my vehicle was STILL in the build phase (which they told me it was in the day the papers holding the car were signed). with 2 weeks to go, i called, i was told it would hit port in NY june 4th, and to figure inside a week from that..... now i found out, its supposed to hit port between june 5-7th, and if they DON'T HAVE IT 10 DAYS they'll call me.... great, so i went from late may, to june 17. looks like i won't have my car for senior prom. magical. on the bright side though, it is loaded up, and is the only black FJ in the shipment supposedly.

Why was it necessary to put down $5,500 as opposed to the typical $500 or $1000 deposit?

It wasn't necessary. The more you put down, the cheaper your monthly payment is when you get the vehicle. I could have easily saved the money and just bought it cash, but I couldn't stand it, I wanted to get it NOWWWWWWW haha :bounce2::bounce2::bounce2::bounce2:

Same issue here w/ the dealer in the SF Bay Area. Put down $500 on April 23 and I had/have to initiate every contact.

Supposed to hit port in a few weeks...I know I don't have to wait for this dealer cause I might find it elsewhere, but my trade in on my old vehicle is too good to pass.

I put $1000 deposit on vehicle and another $9000 at delivery. I sold my Diesel Jetta for $16000 after I got the FJ, so once I send that amount in mine is almost paid for:bounce:

My dealer had only a rough idea of arrival date when the vehicle was on the boat. Once it arrived, the estimate did not get much better. Mine only took 4 weeks from order to arrival at the dealer, but they told us 6 weeks. When they called earlier than I was expecting, I was less dissapointed in the wait time.

I went to the dealer today, and asked about my new Cruiser. They told me YES that it had been ordered, they are waiting on my VIN number etc. Well at least it is crawling along..... PUN INTENDED..

:grinpimp:

My FJ Cruiser re-ordered on Mar 9th, after the dealer figured out they ordered the wrong model number (they ordered model 4704 and I wanted model 4703) in January. The unit was allocated on Apr 19th, for a May build. On Jun 2nd the unit showed up as built, with a D-eta (arrival at the dealership) of 7/3-7/17. My guess is that it will hit Portland sometimes next week.

If the dealer put the order in the system with your name, etc attached to it, once it hits the allocation report, they should be able to track your vehicle with build month. It will have a temp VIN that begins with a "U" for allocated, but unbuilt. Once the vehicle is built, the "U" will be replaced with a "7" and show a date, most likely D-eta.

I put my order mid April and was told it would be between 2 and 3 months being realistic, if optimistic:6 weeks. I made the first call to them exactly 1 week after we sat down to configure the FJ specifically to check that they had made the order. I dont think they had but they did then. Theyve called me since then with an option to pick up some one elses FJ. But I stayed with my configured FJ. Yesterday, on 6/6/2006, I got a call telling me that my FJ is over the seas and should hit the port of Houston on June 24th, after which it would be a week untill they install my options and delivery to the dealership.

Now Im getting busy to find a trade/up grade for my tires and you should too!

Ya i had the same thing, they dont like to call, it starts getting really exciting when you get your VIN and it is being shipped from the coast!!

Good luck and post pics once you make your changes!!

Sterling McCall Toyota here in Houston have 4 FJs the last time I passed by about a week ago. They have blue, silver, black and yellow. You might want to call first and find out if they're still there. :D Their number is (713)270-3900 and ask for Victor Hugo.

Crap, I ordered a black cherry one with just about everything except a kitchen sink. Doubt they would have it, let alone the wrong color. That's always the case so I'll just wait impatiently........ :)

I read one or two of his books. Page turners.
