Since I am having a hard time finding a stock jack and extension rod kit for my 80, I was thinking about just getting one out of an early mini truck/4runner. Anybody see a problem with this? Do those jacks have a smaller capacity rating? Or would they be just fine for the 80? Is there any way to get the rating on the jack? Do they say on it? Thanks.
I have the jack and all the tools for an 80 for sale. They are like new. Don't want to split up the tools though. Let me know if you are interested in all.
The bottle jacks are all the same. Go to your local pick n pull, you'll probably find some brand new ones in Toyota junkers. I have several that I found for $5-$10, including extensions. One even had the engine crank! Try it, it's a cheap way out.Ned
I went with the a harbor freight bottle jack Harbor Freight Tools - Quality Tools at the Lowest Prices will double check number, it fit (almost) in the stock location.....didn't want to use hilift for changing tire on street if I didn't have to (stock jack seemed undersized and wasn't tall enough.)
Toyota bottle jacks are great. I especially like the old cast ones. These things are built to last, and can be rebuilt if they get sticky in 30 minutes or so. I carry two of them since they double so well as jack stands, and they are not unstable like highlifts.
Mini-trucks came with them too, so the thought of going to a pick and pull is a good one.
As for capacity-I have lifted my fully loaded 80 series with one. It wasn't easy, but the jack was just fine.
I have thought about trying to crank the jack with the impact wrench. Anyone tried that?

Agree 100%! Even when I "wheeled" VW's we carried Toyota bottle jacks. They are great tools, work at all angles, think of them as a trail, pota-power, press and even jack tools.
