I was lucky enough to be invited to cater an event at the Toyota Auto Museum in Redondo Beach last night. This place is about a mile from my restaurant and I had no idea it existed until last night. It is very unmarked and you basically have to know someone to get in. Well, while I was there I chatted it up with the manager of the museum and she was very impressed with my Land Cruier knowledge as well I was with hers. I talked about the site and all the people in Socal and she really was excited about our group. She offered up the place to us if we ever need it for any functions. She said that she would love to fill the parking lot with cruisers and take pictures from the roof to put in the museum. The only 80 in the museum was a 96' LX 450 (yes is was locked) PROTOTYPE. It was way cool as was a lot of the cars in there. They had 4 40's in there that were all pretty mint (one wagon and truck was in the mix). I did not have my camera to take any pics--I didn't even ask if they were allowed. Anyways let me know if anyone wants to go to the museum or has a need for a function at all. It is pretty cool.

PS-- she told me to let her know if I needed any part as she could get a discount, I am not sure if it would beat Dan's or not....I also am going to try and go through her to plead my case to Toyota about the Head gasket issue w/ the 80's....especially since I need to do 2. I think I can reference thos site for some pretty good support.

Our chapter (So Cal) of TLCA had a meeting there a number of years back. There should still be pictures on the web site from the event...including some of those very cool one-off's that TLC brought by. Go to http://socallandcruisers.com/photo and check out the 1999 club runs section. The museum was a real kick.

Smit,
I am sold and would love to check that place out. If we wanted to have a SoCal 80's get together there is there a fee? I think it would be pretty cool to look into this. Anyone else?

Did the LX you saw there have any pink panties on display inside? ;)

I'm in for a trip to see this. Maybe they will except my old 91 as a musuem piece!

Would love to see it as well!

Susan (the manager of the museum) is looking for more cruisers. The only 80 series there was the LX proto. There were no pigs or 60's at all. I know she wants a pig but can't find one without rust. If anyone is looking to sell a cruiser they might be worth looking into as a buyer. I have no idea what their criteria would be or how much they would pay but it is worth a shot

So Smit can we arrange a SoCal 80's tour/get together? Is there a fee? If there is and it is not too much I wouldn't mind chipping in. Would you mind pursuing this for us since you are our contact? We could certainly plan if far enough out so you will be back and can attend without working. What do you think?

I will try to call her by the end of the week

Wait a minute! Landcruisers, friends, and free chicken! :bounce: :bounce2: I don't think it gets much better than that. You would still be able to look around and have fun too right. We can't have you working the whole night and not have any fun. :D

Thanks for looking into this for us Smit.

Ummmm YEAH!

I am there if its on the weekend!

As long as you provide some chicken strips! :D
