Has anyone used this stuff?
Where is connection on the evaporator under the truck?
AIR.webp

Not having ever used it but thinking out loud here. I think it just hooks to the drain tube where it drains out on the firewall.

Again just my thinking out loud.

Thats prob. it. Or pull off the hose and shoot it into the drain nipple. , MIke

It is universal. I seen this stuff on the shelf at the dealer now for atleast 10 years now that i remember.

here's the back side. Step 1, jack up vehicle....

So, where is the evaporator drain hose?

Passenger side, under the vehicle, near the fire wall, under the evaporator. The down fall to using this product is blowing the evaporator drain tube off the nipple on the evaporator housing, or splitting the line. If that occurs, you might wind up with a wet floor board.

There is a small access area from inside the car where the blower resistor is mounted. Remove two screws, pull the resistor out, and then you spray the cleaner in from there. Not sure how this method compares to going through the drain tube, but it's an option.

It's a better method for sure. The best method is to spend minutes to R and R the evap housing and clean with a hose. Do it right.

X2, depending on the problem.

The aerosol stuff is good at reducing/eliminating odors, but this is often temporary. The main problem is debris on/in the evaporator, due to the airflow, it is impacted in place. Especially if you wheel, carry dogs, etc, it is somewhat difficult to remove, even when using a brush, compressed air, etc, so the aerosol stuff isn't going to remove it.

If you dont want to pull everything. Pull the fan and stick your hand or vacuum up to the core and pull or vacuum off the hair, dirt and debris. Then use the foam and rinse. MIke

I have been trying to locate the drain hose, so far no dice. Any pictures/photos showing where it ends on a 97LC? I looked under passenger side firewall area, nothing I see looks like a drain. Is it hidden behind something? Nothing on FSM either.

Correct.

The same type of products are used on home AC units. As another member said its best to be able to get at the evap core, Vacuum off all dust, dirt, and hair, then clean it with this foam. Last, if you can, finish off the job by back flushing the core from the direction of air flow with clean water from your garden house. That way you wash all that crap out of the core. I use a commercial spray product just like this every summer to PM both my evap (inside coil) and outside condenser core on my home AC unit. By doing so you wash all that crap off and out of in between the fins, it really helps with the air flow and that helps keep your condenser pressures down. That helps make your compressor last a lot longer and with good air flow through you evap core you'll get a lot quicker cool down inside your trucks cab. Oh and one more thing, by cleaning your evap core that will get rid of that musty smell. That smell can come from mold growing on a wet damp core evap core, not a good thing for your wife and kids to be breathing mold spores.

So I got to it, removed the electrical gizmo on the left side, 2 screws, and that allowed a rectangular hole for some vacuuming with a thin hose. Then investigated how to get the small foam hose in there. Removed the 2 metal clips and the one screw to the left of them, and used soft prys to try to create enough space to slip in hose. I got in by the thermistor wire hole, and dispenses the goo. Within 10 mins, the liquid was coming out under truck. Completed the process as per instructions, and the stuff that cleared was black liquid, smells nice in there now.

Would be pretty awesome if the lower half would come off for cleaning, but I am sure that's too much to ask? Could clean the whole enchilada right where it sits. Remove the screws and the clips and voila, it comes off....

As for my wife, I can't get her away forms the Rover. Maybe into a new Rover....
