Tire question.. .so im running Toyo Open country MT 35x12.50x18's right now and Im looking at running the Toyo open country ATII Extremes, and the two sizes im looking at are as follows.

Tire Size, Weight (lbs.) ,Tread Depth (1/32") ,Inflated Overall ,Diameter (in.), Inflated Overall Width (in.), Max Load Single / Dual (Ibs.), Tread Construction ,Sidewall Construction

LT295/70R18 , 64 , 16.3 , 34.3 , 11.8 , 4080 / ,3750 , 3P+2S+2N , 3P

35X12.50R18LT , 81 , 17.0 , 34.5 , 12.5 , 3415 / - , 3P+2S+2N , 3P

So the major difference is the 35's weight 18lbs more than the 295's but have the exact same construction... i see the 35's have slightly deeper treads by .7 which ends up being like 1/64" more ...and the 295's have higher pressures and load capacity. I also know the 12.50's will be a bit wider like my tires I have now.

Im all for the narrow tire is better, wider isnt always the best school of thought.

They both are the extreme pattern so really im thinking the 295's might be the way to go. What say you smart people. btw I think the 295's are a bit cheaper too by maybe 50$ a tire.

Thanks
Bruce

^ I suspect because you stated "Im all for the narrow tire is better, wider isnt always the best school of thought." And the 285 width variant is less wide than the 12.50 variant.

FWIW: I, et al including hoser, have been running the 285/75R18 size on our 100's for several years. Although I'd prefer, for most of my off-road travels, the 12.50" variant (a little more wheel protection/floatation), fitment on a 100 is more problematic with the extra width. Not to mention the extra heft of the 12.50" compared to identical tire model in the 285/75R18.

I've run: 2) sets of Toyo OC, 1) set of Toyo OC2 (current) and 3) sets of GY MT/R Kevlar in this size...

papasmurf,

I went from the same Toyo MT 35X12.50R18LT to a 285/75R18 that was ~17lbs lighter. The weight difference was very noticeable on my 100, maybe not as much on your Tundra though. Anyway, since you were considering the 295/70R18, I suggested the 285/75R18. It is about the same weight but taller (and a little narrower).

I'm also trying to promote demand for this size so that I can have more tire choices (in this size) in the future. :D

285/75R18 is the equivalent of 35x11.25
