Hmm. I'm hearing conflicting stuff on the CDL issue then. I've been told that truck and trailer are not considered RV unless registered as RV (ie - motorhome or truck and travel trailer) and that CDL rules apply to anything not registered as RV. I may make some calls. My dad sold the trailer that I normally use and he won't let me use the new one because it is over 10,000lbs. I have a class B permit and just need to take my driving test. I've done air brakes, etc (although I wouldn't need them for this). The prob is that I no longer have access to a truck.
I'd like to eventually get a newer 5.9 and a gooseneck and don't want to get on the bad side of the law (I don't need them looking at anything anyway).
the rules do differ slightly from state to state BUT as long as you arn`t carrying someone else's sheet for hire CDL is not required.
that is why you see on some large tow rigs NOT FOR HIRE on the body
you get a CDL it then also applies to your personal car as well.
it is not STATE issued it is a federal one thought ya wanted to fly low
