Does anyone have a number for a can of touch up for the stock silver that came on the 87' FJ60? I stoppped at Vatozone this morning, but everything they had was new "Moonglow Pearl" or "Alpine Meadow" or some such crap. I dont care if there is a Ford or GM color that matches. Its just for small touch ups, so I'd like just one of those small brush bottles. I guess I could go have a quart mixed up, Ill probably repaint the rear quarter eventually, but I just wanted something cheap to get by for now.

Thanks, Hodag

Your paint code can be found on the metal tag that is rivited to the firewall. It is about the size of a credit card and it has the VIN and the Japan Model Code on it as well as a bunch of other stuff. Near the bottom is a line idenified as "C/TR". This is color/trim. The first three digit number that follows it is the paint code EG 6M1 or 1C8 or 489 ETC.

147 is the code. I checked with Toyota of Dallas last week, and they say it's now discontinued, so you're either stuck with having a paint shop make you some, or finding an equivalent bottle at the parts store.

You should check with the dealer again. I too picked up a small tube (1/2 ounce) with brush of code 147 at my dealer a few months back. They didn't complain any about getting it. the part number on the tube is 00258-00147.

Problem with color codes is that the paint you buy today with the correct color code is brand new or at least newer that the older, weathered paint on your truck, so that even if the code is correct, the paint may not match. The paint shop will use the code as a starting point and then modify it to match your "actual" color, they will even put it in a spray can and the price is not too bad.
