Hi All !

I must admit I am not very experienced with LCs (and car maintenance in general). So I guess I need to start from somewhere. I recently got a 1990 LJ73 (2.4 Turbo Diesel) and I am planning to buy the materials and then have them fitted / changed in a repairshop (Unfortunately I don't have the place or experience to do it on my own.)

The car has not been very actively driven in the last years so I am planning to start from;

1- oil filter, fuel filter, air filter and oil change
2- timing belt, v-belt
3- tires and wheels (they are really old)

my questions are;

1- should I buy only the timing belt here Timing - belt - https://www.euro4x4parts.com/en/parts/catalog-specific/toyota-landcruiser-series-70-lj73-2-4td-diesel-rectangular-headlamp-1990-1995/engine/belts-timing/timing-belt or should buy the full kit here Timing - full kit - https://www.euro4x4parts.com/en/parts/catalog-specific/toyota-landcruiser-series-70-lj73-2-4td-diesel-rectangular-headlamp-1990-1995/engine/belts-timing/timing-full-kit

2- would any 16-inch wheel with 6x139.7 specifications fit my LC? for example: Jante acier Modular II 7 X 16 6x139.7 ET20 CB100.1 NOIR - https://www.euro4x4parts.com/fr/pieces/ref=7JM1045/jante-acier-modular-ii-7-x-16-6x139-7-et20-cb100-1-noir/oe=ra428100-1bk?srsltid=AfmBOoopvrIzHS3JYOF7KvY1542o1Y4_Fv1SSMknikngG_ev0N-x1jSWGu0

Thank you in advance !

Trying to answer your second question, I would suggest Toyota OEM wheels for the 70-Series (new or used).
It should not be a problem in France (Toyota dealerships, specialised vendors, petites annonces)

PS. What a beautiful 70-Series Cruiser you've got!

thanks so much for the advice and the kind words.

I also immediately fell in love with her the moment i saw her ! :) maybe it's the colour or her general condition, but she has something special indeed !

I am now trying to sort out the mechanics. It drives very well, but I still want the engine, brakes, transmission and steering to be controlled and well-refreshed. I have an appointment with a garage tomorrow, and then the roads await !

(until I start the work on the body and the chassis ! :D)

Both, colours and shape/condition, are great indeed!
I hope you have just to look at the mechanics and don't have to start body works...

PS. Have a friend in France (Bordeaux) with a similar Cruiser (his father bought it new back in the day). We did some great tours in the area (see pic)...

Consider 42601-60262-03 for your wheels, with 235/85R16 or 255/85R16 tires.
thanks ! actually i realised i have the exact same wheels (the original toyota ones) on my car. so i will try to keep using them maybe after some rust treatment and cleaning. thanks !

yes indeed lj73 is (was) very popular in france in 90's i guess !

though i am missing friends to hang out with. i am a bit on my own in this adventure.

I just realized that nobody actually answered your wheel question. The short answer is: no, you can't just use any 6x139.7 wheel.

A wheel has several different measurements that all combine to either allow or prevent correct fitment. Some of these measurements deal with clearance in and around the wheel/tire assembly, and others deal with how the wheel and tire relate to the hub and knuckle (the metal parts inboard of the wheel). Changing these measurements can have unintended consequences, so you need to understand them before you purchase an aftermarket wheel. Look up "wheel measurements explained" and then read a few sites that can help you understand the numbers before you purchase anything.

Mostly, you need to be concerned about overall diameter, width, lug circle, hub bore and backspacing/ET. You can always measure your current wheels to find those numbers, and then match them as closely as possible. Other numbers - weight, inner diameter, etc. - may become important to you in the future, but for now it's okay to just learn the basics.

For now, using your known-good stock wheels is a good plan. 👍
