I read through the FAQs but I am still a little uncertain of the following. I am replacing my torsion bars with OME. When I remove my old bars and install my new ones. How far out do I back off the bolt going to the key? Just enough to remove the old bars or do I need to back them out all the way? Is there a starting point or baseline set point for the bolt and key to begin my adjustment for the new bars.

I hope that makes sense. It might be something that is obvious once I begin. I am just wanting to make sure I have all my ducks in a row prior to starting.

Thanks in advance

Yep, jack up the front and loosen the 30mm all the way until you have slop in the joint. It's been a while, but I believe you slide it rear first to clear and then back forward and down to remove.

Thanks for the quick response. So as long as its loose I am good to go. No set point or need to back out completley?

Honestly, it's been about 3 years so my mind is a little fuzzy on details. You can't take it apart 'too much' if that is your concern. If you're mechanical it will all make sense when you get into it. The only really challenge to the job is if the splines are rusted/fused to either end. PB Blaster for a couple of days prior and heat on the outer part will help if that is the case.

I like to "think" I am mechanically inclinded. I plan on doing the lift this weekend. It seems rather straightforward. I have just not messed around with IFS that much. Already have been prepping with PB Blaster and going to hit it up once more on friday. I will post pics.

Thanks Again

Check out Slee Offroads web page, he has a really good tech article on IF suspension installation, pictures and all!

As soon as it's loose it's safe to disassemble. When you put it all back together do it so that you have as much adjustment available as possible to pre-load the bars and avoid having to re-index....

It will all make sense when you're under there.
