I just upgraded to 275/70/18 BFG KO2's on my 2005 LC, and I want to have the torsion bars cranked so that the truck sits level (followed by an alignment).

Both of the local offroad shops I talked to (Shaffer's and 4WheelParts) declined the work as they're focused on full expedition builds. Who should I work with in the Bay Area to have them adjusted?

I can't do it myself because I live in an apartment in the city, and you're not allowed to wrench on your cars unfortunately.

You could also go to a parking lot and do the wrenching.

+1

It will take you longer to dig your jack out of the back than it will to crank the adjustment bolts. It's maybe a 1/4  job.

I'm not planning to lift the truck - the bigger tires and resulting ground clearance are enough for me.

Just figured I'd ask because a number of people have done this mod to stock 100's.

Check with A+ Imports on Industrial Road just south of Holly in San Carlos on the east side of the street. Owned by brothers who used o be neighbors. One has now moved up to the Idaho panhandle and probably wrenching on Cruisers up there.

I find it more difficult to change the oil than it is to the crank the Torsion bars...but now ive cranked it all the way and im out of threads, reindexing just got exponentially harder lol

I don't understand. I thought you weren't supposed to 'level' it out? A little rake rides better doesn't it? (and looks better IMO) Or is this an aesthetic preference?

I've read so much in the last two months maybe I'm remembering wrong?

Its about down travel. If you maintain 50-60mm of DT (droop) then level or not generally wont make much difference in stability. You may find the geometry change makes it more "twitchy" steering feel. Remember when you lift the front you narrow the track.

Many vehicles run a forward rake because the handling is more conservative.

Oh wow, I read through the tutorial again and it's so easy. I'd still need to get a 30mm socket, breaker bar, etc.

I have a high lift jack and the 30mm socket if anyone wants to come to Oakley.
