I noticed during my oil change last week on my 96 80 that there appeared to be transmission fluid leaking slightly from just behing the oil pan. This week while draining and refilling the atf, I poked around a little near the site and found a slightly loose plastic "plug" or cover, which, after referring to my service manual, I realized is used to cover a large access hole to the torque converter. It seemed the cover I had was not seated very tightly, and must have been allowing fluid to spray out, although it wasnt enough to create drips on the floor.

Anyone else seen this problem? does the cover just loosen over time? It doesn't seem to be very secure for something covering an area that would be pretty sensitive to dirt.

Should not be any tranny fluid behind the cover. The cover is not intended to be sealing in any fluid.
