Torn: 07 Fjc -vs- 97 Fzj80

So, i have been looking and lurking and thinking and test driving the FJC and i have been trying to compare my 1997 FZJ80 with 64k miles on her to the FJC and to me it does not compare (FZJ80) is a much stouter truck from the get-go.

But in terms of a new car 6spd and a v6 that gets much better milage it looks like a great deal (FJC)...

But then i have to do up the FJC, arb, tires etc... and i hate all that friggin plastic!!! Its all got to go. Theres about 5k in accessories which my FZJ80 has allready.

I am torn boys and i need some assistance.

WHAT SHOULD I DO!! I have a month to make up my mind the FJC i want will be in by then i will have to get them a deposit.

I was torn too...now I have 96. Wheeled 80s and FJCs at Tellico, both are great.

take your pick...80s are nice because you can get a whole lotta toys for the delta in price these days

its easy

get the FJC, and keep the 80 ..I love mt new FJC...pep, comfort, good wheeling abilities.....and 4 times the around town mileage my 60 gets.
now i have a DD, ( the FJC) and a big monster for hauling stuff.
I am replacing the front bumper on the FJC with a Bentup,and am waiting for Iron Pig to come out with a rear bumper.

Keep the 80. You would be crazy to get rid of a perfectly good 80 series for an FJC. Wait a couple of years and pick up a decent used FJC so you can have both.

If you have a rigged 80 I would keep it.

You can always throw more cash into the 80 to make it even bigger/better, whatever and it still is cheaper than going in on an FJC.

The FJC is nice, don't get me wrong, just not worth leaving what you have behind.

Thats what i'm saying! Plus i would have a friggin Payment on the FJC i have no paymens on my Like New 80, plus i KNOW that i have about another 250k to get out of her until a rebuild, and i rarely wheel the thing! Shes my DD.

I think i'm going to wait about 2 yrs and then sell the Audi A4 i have and buy my Fiance' a used FJC and then we will have two toys that are kick ass offroad rigs (but my 80 will always reign supreme).

I'm still torn! My FZJ is going to crash itself with me in it becuase of what i am saying!!!! Very Superstious.........

LOL.... Your right, on the way home from work the other day i saw a nice big puddle of MUD on the side of the backroad i was taking home, i stopped and then just drove through it got mud all over it and i swear she liked it!

Sounds like you want both! An 80 with 64K miles has a long way to go. Why would you want to get rid of that, unless you hear the call of a new car (which I think you do). Are you tired of the 80 and looking for something new? If that's the case, you won't be happy sticking with the 80.

If you're looking for a DD and not an offroader, you may as well trade the 80 while it's got good value and get the FJC. If you're looking for more offroad, keep the 80 - you likely won't want to take your shiny new FJC offroad for risk of marring it's pristine condition.

I've never driven an 80, but I can tell you the FJ40 and FJC are a galaxy apart. I know, duh.

I have an FJC and I love it, but it is way different than the 80. My brother (the big Avacado Avatar - Dan) is on his way to Austin, TX to pick up his 80.

agree with most on here, keep the 80, pick up a used FJC next year, and voila. If I had a paid-off 80, you couldn't pry it from my cold, dead hands.
