I've seen a couple of obscure references to a "JDM-only" version of the 100-Series engine oil filters....

Not the traditional: p/n: 90915-YZZD3

But some "other" one, where part numbers have never been listed...and no photos (as far as my Google-Fu can determine) have ever been posted here. :hmm:

Can anyone show a photo that compares the two, or provide a searchable part number for them? I'd be interested to hear what makes them more desirable.... or perhaps that this is all just the stuff of internet folklore. :)

90915-20004.

Fly over to Nippon with an empty suitcase and fill'er up.

Did you see it on Ebay?

Nope.

It was on here somewhere. I've been hitting the archives pretty hard and looking at SO many threads I lost track of where it was.

Someone claimed a vendor here has them, but they don't have a part number (or at least it wasn't posted) and there was no photo or description about "why" it was better than the USDM (OEM) one that we normally buy....

I've got plenty of friends in Japan, maybe they can do a little legwork and save me the flight!!!

That should work =)

So this will not fit 80 series right? So how good is this particular filter compare to the 90915-YZZD3? I remember there is a 80 series made in Japan filter as well that was replaced by Thailand made filter as well.

I know we are enthusiasts but c'mon. Its an oil filter. :)

If you're in the Boston area anytime soon I can show it so you can compare sizes, I believe I have a couple sitting on my shelf.

That's sort of the sub-text of my question....

It's great that there is a "better" filter out there, but with these trucks going 300K+ miles on the "normal" oil filter....what benefit is achieved with the Japanese-only version? Is this a filter for the guys who want to extend the oil change intervals, and run synthetic?

Like everything in life, there is always a way to spend MORE money for something with incrementally better performance.... but the diminishing returns usually don't justify the extra costs involved.

I'm thinking about examples like high-end audio equipment, or perhaps engine HP....or very old whiskey. :)

true true... Id probably buy one too lol. It just sounds like they are SO sparse that it'd be nuts to track them down lol.

Does Japan have better or worse oil (/gas)? I assume worse? Maybe they are better for that reason?

Search for oil filter 20004 and you'll get all the info you could ever want. And at least one of the threads that comes up has photos, both inside and outside.

Now that I've got a real part number, things just got a LOT easier! I'm slinking off into the archives for another couple of hours!

Thanks!

90915-20004 fits F with spin-on, 2F, 3FE, 1FZFE, 2U, 3B, 13BT and 1GR with spin-on. Also others that escape me at the moment.

90915-YZZD3 is the "economy" replacement for 90915-20004. The vast majority of owners buy on price-point, not quality. That is the reason the 90915-20004 is no longer exported to this market.

IC, thanks for the info :)

Because it's a ~50,000 dollar truck? :meh:

Or at least it was at one time.....
