Hey everyone,

So I replaced my tires on my 94 cruiser with stock sized ones (had 285/75/16r) precious. I'm low on funds and got a great deal on oem rims with used tires with decent tread.

Anyway, when I put the new used tires on, I noticed the alignment was real bad, the truck would wander quite a lot on the freeway. It may have been this way before, but the tore change made it really noticeable.

My question is, how much change does one rotation of the tie rod make? I did the adjustment myself because I wanted to see if a minor adjustment helped. I did one full rotation which increased the toe in setting.

It helped quite a lot, the truck does not wander anymore. However, I can tell it doesn't roll quite as easily as before and I'm sure that will impact mpg and tire wear. At the same time, perhaps the tires just need to wear a little to get used to the new setting (it seems to already have happened slightly).

Thanks.

In my experience with tires, they're like boots or shoes - if they don't feel right when you first put them on, you're gonna have problems. Might I suggest a trip to your local 4×4 shop that does alignments? I'd trust their knowledge and experience, and since you said $$$ is tight, you probably want these tires to last.

I would get some angle iron, clamped to the rotors, and measure front vs back and adjust as necessary.

I used TMR alignment plates, and nailed the toe in, confirmed with a later alignment. I really don't think one needs to pay for an alignment, although I did because I was unsure how well the TMR plates would work...

I do the same.
