So, the factory new fold down windshield at the bottom of the joint seam(outside) is open as you can see in the picture. To plug or not is the question. Maybe squeeze some seam sealer in the gap?

I say Not Plug the bottom as water will come in above and be trapped.
Can you seal the top and along the sides?

I never plugged mine. I just rubbed all the rubber with rubber grease and put if back carefully the same as it come out.

If water can get in along the side, I 'd leave the bottom open anyway

Just to be clear this is at the bottom of the windshield, I believe the rest is closed up, it's like this on both sides. Maybe Steve Jackson has some insight.

I'd leave it open. That way any moisture that gets in there can get out. Otherwise it may start rusting from the inside out. Like rockers that can't drain.

Both my 73 and 75 series leaked in that lower joint. It was just a matter of cleaning it out. The 73 had some dirt that had infiltrated the the 2 surfaces and the 75 had a rusty frame that caused the rubber to deform and allow a small of rainwater in.
If the 2 surfaces are flat and clean they will not leak.
