Ok, I'm trying to make some new brake line sections using the Titan flare tool on NiCopp 3/16 brake line. The first side I attempted came out perfect....every other practice one (4 to date have come out screwed up. Here's the pic of the good side and then the bad side.
It seems like the NiCopp is twisting when I form the bubble flare (first step)...at least that's my guess. Here are the steps.
1. cut line with Rigid tub cutter
2. ream the inside of the NiCopp line with step drill bit
3. lightly sand the outside of the line to make sure there are no burrs from cutting the line.
4. Tighten the brake line down snugly, but not too tight...just looking for a lot of resistance. Think if I go any tighter I'd be compressing the tubing some.
5. Use the red lube on both sides of the die and follow the procedures. I'm using a decent amount trying to ensure the die spins smoothly into the tubing
My current thought as I type this is that I don't need to use the step drill bit on the inside of the line (maybe if I was using stainless line then i would)....but by doing it on the NiCopp I'm making the thickness of the line too narrow and it's losing its strength.
Any help or insight would be really appreciated. (I swear I can make any easy job tough the first time I do it).
