Hi all, been researching my new-to-me 02 sequoia for a while. Finally decided I need some advice. Here's what I'm working with:

- about to get a 2.5" lift kit from 1stgenoffroad and upgrading to JBA UCA : (kit: ARB OLD MAN EMU COMPLETE SUSPENSION KIT - https://www.1stgenoffroad.com/store/p64/OME2.5SequoiaKit.html#/)
- I am hoping to fit 33" tires max.
- I am choose between two tires: 33x10.5x17 Kenda Klever R/T or 255/80/17 Falken WildPeaks AT
- The wheel I am choosing is a 17" Pro Comp 69 - it is a 17x9, with -6 offset and 4.75 backspace.
- I won't be intense rock crawling, but may do some semi rough terrain trails with occasional weather.

My numerous questions are:

- Are these tire widths too narrow or fat for a 9" width wheel?
- Can this 33" tire fit under my vehicle still if deflate it? I do not want to go with a rear carrier right now
- I'd actually like to go with the 16x8 wheel they offer instead of the 17x9, but none of the pizza-cutter size tires I want are in 16" except the Toyo Open Country (not sure if I want to be restricted to that?) The pro comp 16x8 is offset -22
- Lastly, I think I should be rub-free regardless of my sizes right?

Thanks in advance.

Good choice of tires. I’m sure you will have no clearance issues. Personally i’ll go with the 255 tire. With 17x9 i believe you will be at the max width for that tire size. Check with the manufacturer spec.

Thanks for the information and reply. Does that mean I'll fair better with 17x8 or 17x8.5? I come from a street tuner background so understanding offroad and bead breakage is a little different for me. I'm not sure how far the tire is able to stretch and perform will offroad.

No not necessarily it’s tire manufacture recommendation for that tire spec. With the 255 I would stay with stock tires and see how that performs for you. I’m sure it’ll do great. To bust a bead takes a lot of pressure if you worries about that I would recommend method race wheels with their bead grip technology. I usually run 16-18psi when off-road on my sequoia with 265/70R17 with no issues.

I run BFG K02 285/70/17 on FN Wheels Five Star, 17x8.5 Matte Bronze (-6 offset) on basically that same lift. Only slight rubbing at full lockout on the front so I just had to remove the splash guards to fix, no frame cutting.

285/70/17 on TRD with 3" kit from 1stgen offroad. No rubbing. No spacers.
Was told 285 will fit under the spare.

8” +0 to -10 is the sweet spot for our vehicles I would say if you run 33”+ tires. Clears the firewall pinches and doesn’t rub the frame. Keep in mind that a smaller width wheel with a wider tire is less prone to losing its bead at a lower pressure. It’s part of why I’ve stuck with my 16x8 wheels even with a 315/75. Able to air down to single digits without issue.
