Ok, I finally refurbished 5 steelies 15 inch wheels. Now the inside width is 5.5 inches. What tire will fit best? Everybody seems to say 31x10.5x15 will fit but tire installers say you need at least 8 inch wide rims. Anyone, anyone?

Wish I could tell you for sure... I have 33x9.50's on my stock wheels, so that doesn't help you. Prior to these, I ran 31x10.50's on my wagon wheels, but those were 6 inches wide. That bit of info also doesn't help you. Sorry. Hope you're well, Brandon!

I sent too many pics! Sorry

Would 33x9.5 fit on 5.5 steelies? And where would I find them? Did you need a lift kit?
I still have to get you those window regulators. I'm going to try to get to the next meeting so I'll put them in the 40.

I’m running 33x10.5 BFGs on stock steel wheels. I assume they are 5.5”

Some have said natational chains won’t install them b/c they are outside of manufactures recommended specifications.

Search in the 40 Tech forum for tire choices.... there are plenty of opinions.... I mean options - about 1500 results.

What year is your 40? Mine is bj40 78 but from Spain where they put 16s on them. I picked up fj40 15s with 5.5 spread. I looked at that thread and it seems Cooper 33x9.5x15 could be the way to go on such a narrow wheel.

Mine is a 1974. I’ll send some pics, I think I show some 31 inch wheel clearances and some 33 inch wheel clearances after I installed 2.5 inch OME lift.

Ok. Here's what I did. I found Cooper 30x9.5x15s that will fit these wheels. I have no lift so they'll look tall just not so wide. That's ok. Thanks for all the input.
Tried to find 33s but they didn't exist. Just want it to look original.
They Should be here this week.

Those will fit for sure. 31's fit just fine on a stock height so you're good to go. And yes, my 9.5's are on the 5.5" wheel width. :-)

33/9.50's are really hard to find anymore.
Quite a few companys used to make them.

All good. Just can't wait to see how nice it will look. Have you guys met Nathaniel yet? Great guy and a wiz on diesels. Came over one night and gave me lots of tips.

Looking good, Brandon, Hope to see them Saturday.
