I currently have 275/70R18 General Grabber AT2 on my truck. When these wear out, I would like to increase that to either 295/65 or preferably 295/70. Not sure of the brand, but I like the Cooper STT Pros at the moment.

There are a million threads talking about what sizes will fit on the vehicle, but what is the biggest size that will fit in the factory spare location? Has anyone fit a 295/70 down there? Could it be done by deflating it?

If not, does anyone have any ideas for a rear carrier under $1,000 or so? I would love a full ARB or something, but that's not likely for a while.

I run the 295/70/18 SST's and my spare fits underneath but I had to remove my hitch.

Was yours integrated into the bumper? On my LC, the hitch is below the frame.

Mine was the below the frame type. No way it would fit with the hitch. I doubt it would even fit with the integrated type either.

I don't consider it a permanent solution. The tire hangs super low and drags when off roading, even after doing the spare lift mod.

Im putting it on a swingout as soon as ben (dissent) builds me one

255.85.16 is almost 33.5 by 10.5/11

275.70.18 is about the same

The 295/70/18 is only an 11.5 wide tire. It still hangs down wayyyyy lower than the stock. Its fine for normal driving, but drives me nuts off road with it constantly dragging.

I even did the spare lift and gained about an inch.

I know this is old, but just out of curiosity was it difficult to remove the hitch? I also have the 'below the frame' hitch that looks to be simply bolted on...is it simply a bolt-removal-process?? Mine are rusted to sh** so it will inevitably be much more of a PITA - but just wanted to get some feedback from someone who has already done this. Thanks friend

Super easy. mine only had 3 bolts on each side. I can take it off in about 10 minutes and have it back on in 15. Rusted might be a different story though.
