Tire replacement question

This should be simple, but like everything else in my life I find a way to complicate it. I'm replacing my tires. Fj is basically stock. Will do moderate off road trails and some trailer towing. I really like the Yokohama Geolander A/T-S, but they come in either P265/70R-17 vs LT265/70R.
There is about a 10lb weight difference, and I realize it will effect gas mileage, ride, handling etc., but despite the fact that most miles will be on road, when I do go off road I want the best protection.

Check out the General Grabber AT2. I have them on my stock Pathfinder and they are an awesome tire, and they come with a 6yr/60,000 mile tread life warranty.

Its hard to get both off-road protection and not impact on-road performance (MPG/comfort/noise/etc), you'll have to compromise one place or the other.

I would consider how much negative impact you would want to live with. Personally, I leaned WAY off-road, running Super Swampers.

I've found the BFG KM2 tires surprisingly comfortable on-road, not as noisy as I expected and decent road manners. Off-road, they work very well. IMHO, the 255/85/16 or 255/80/17 is the perfect size tire for the FJC and will fit without a lift and/or body mount chop...

I'll second Jerry's comments and recommendation. I'm running BFG KM2's on one of my Toyota 4WD trucks and they are fairly quiet for a mud terrain tire and run very well on the highway as well as off-road.

My FJC has Toyo M/T's on it and they are the strongest off-road tires I've ever run, but you pay a price for the strength - weight and stiffness. Any weight you add in wheels and tires is harder on your gas mileage than any other weight you add to your truck, because it is un-sprung and you must spin up that extra weight every time you get rolling or increase speed.

I have the Goodyear wrangler AT/S 275/70/17 on my FJ. it gives it a slightly more aggressive stance and not noisy at all. Great traction off road as long as it isn't anything too intense.
