Hey all, I figured that I would share this nugget that I figured out last weekend. And granted, this may have already been shared but I couldn't find it in a quick search this weekend.

Long story short: a modern Tacoma spare tire tool kit will work for a 80 series!

My 80 was missing it's kit and I needed to get the spare tire down. but I didn't want to cut it down. after 15minutes of internet searching and hunting for info, I decided to try the kit from my '22 Taco. It worked flawlessly! and it has dimples instead of the little screws that are frustrating / strip out on the handle.

So if you guys are missing a tool kit and need a cheap easy alternative: a Tacoma kit will work.

I imagine most other modern Toyota truck kits work as well.

As of fairly recently, the Hilux (Taco) jacks aren't as sturdy, or as tall as the 80 series jack.
Could be a problem with large tires.

Don't know if the same is true for USA Taco

I’m not sure. I had the jack just not the tool bag with the handles and other small tools.

I imagine the US taco uses a similar jack to the hilux. Unless the US truck sources it’s part from MEX / US / CAN?

My Taco jack is taller than my LC jack. I had the jack but no tools, so I bought a complete set from a 2006 Taco and it works very well and is about 3" taller than original.

Good to post all this again. It's a known thing with search, but it's there again.
