Got a timing belt story with a happy ending! Recently Got a 1998 LX 470 recently. Sad part is that it was at 169,000 and TB was never done that I could tell.

Had the timing belt and water pump done today. Great service at local Toyota dealer. Got several extras out of the deal: Free tranny total fluid exchange. Filled with fancy synthetic tranny fluid. Fixed some loose vacuum lines.

Old belt was intact and not frayed. The bad is the entire belt was cracked badly and failure was not to many thousand miles off. Tech said it was original b/c of the older part number and wear.

Original belt at 169000.....pretty darn good. Gotta love the engineers of the 4.7l ( only better if it was a timing chain).

Cheers!

That is some serious age. Glad you got away with it!

My orignal timing belt has 175,325 miles. My daughter gave me the Landcruiser; now I wish I had helped her take better care of it!
It's parked until I get parts from CDan.

Anyone know what the "book" says the labor time is on replacing timing belt?

Its a shameful thing, but my TB looked exactly like the pics here at 230K miles when I finally got around to changing it.

I just had mine changed... the old parts looked like new after 195,000 km (~160,000 miles). I bet it would have been good for a lot longer. Pump looked to be in great shape too!
