Re-assembly went well, easier than the disassembly, prolly cause everything was familiar. No left over parts. The new belt threaded easily and the timing marks lined up with no ambiguity. Started right up & runs nice, no CEL thrown. Turns out the old waterpump was leaking, found alot of crusty red-orange deposits on the back side once it was off. Didn't like the condition of the old idlers either so made a quick trip to the dealer this morning for new ones. Re-used the old tensioner. I was going to replace it too, along with the idlers, but they didn't have one in stock and said they rarely if ever replace them and can go several hundred thousand miles in their experience.
All in all the job is fairly simple, just very consuming and I'm glad I don't have to do it again for another 100k. It puked a bunch more anti-freeze all over the garage floor when I removed the waterpump and I didn't feel like laying in a puddle to clamp the flywheel for torquing the harmonic balancer, so I made a bracket to hold the balancer instead, worked like a champ. I borrowed a 3/4" drive torque wrench to make the 181 ft-lb.
Thanks for all the pointers along the way. Now I can get new tires & Koni's for my bimmer with the money saved.
Cheers!
