well, i say...
lets do it and quit talking about it.
bring up a gasser 60 from the States and stick the 3B into it... nothing but cash burning a hole in your pocket.

better yet, turn in the Armada and give your wifey the diesel 60 and tell her she is being "envio friendly" ...
no?

Is there something wrong with the 1FZ engine in it? If not use it! Keep the auto and you have all the power you need - nothing against the 3B but putting it in the 80 would just turn it into a tractor in my opinion, keep the gasser, get worse mileage but you have all the power you need with less wiring, mod hassles. The fun part of that build would be modding the body.

Or.......... bring your 80 up and work on the real off roader - your 75 series. Bob the back end, cut as much of the frame as you can in front of the rear tires. Have a competent fabricator bend and weld a roll cage/deck for the back ( a friend here builds cages for race cars and tube chassis for porsches for the last 40 years - and does it for cash and cheap). Put a winch in the back - shortened 75, no turbo needed but add later for making it sound cool and you have the most agile little truck around.

You could even put the rad behind the cab with dual fans and mount an 8274 in nice and close making it even shorter, add an exo skeleton, coil the front and rear - or just the rear since the back end is modded you cut put long travel coil shocks - tons of fun!

Or take the 1FZ out of the 80 and put it in the 75! It would be a monster with that engine in it - check out the videos in South america with the 70's running that engine and tell me it isn't a great package:)

Only limited by time, money, and imagination.

now i will disagree with making the 75 shorter. there is a limit to how short an off road truck should be. you still want stability on the vertical climbs.
there is a parts 70 shorty sitting here, move the cab over to it, much easier than chopping and welding.

i don't think he was suggesting going with the 3B in the 80 (although i have seen one in action with the 3B and it was impressive). he was suggesting ditching the 3B to recoup some of his investment or sticking it into a 60 for resale in the states...

no matter, the 70 tub on the 80 sounds like fun ... he just needs to make a decision and get on it.

There is a video on youtube somewhere, there are a couple BJ70's with the back chopped and custom decks on them, they are in a race and going nuts, amazing what they went through and didnt flip. Cautious driving and a person would be ok.

Ah sorry - i thought you told him to bring the gasser 80 up and swap - just saw that you said gasser 60 - my bad.

75 tub on the 80 would be ok, but I like the narrow 7X stance for the tight stuff.

HAve fun!

sorry for the tangent - back to Mooses 60......

Moose - so did you ever find a rear window?

Zekester has a parts 60 that has just about picked clean... I asked him yesterday to check to see if the back glass is still there (he wasnt sure and it was a while since he had last seen it)
