At 240K my rack bushings are officially shot. I've done some searching and I think I'll go the super pro route on that one. Anyway I'm debating whether or not to change my short side axle/diff seal on my differential as it has a minor leak. I think changing the rack might be much easier as well with the diff out of the way.

I can't find an exploded view of the front diff. Do I need to remove the carrier to replace the seal? Or is there an easier way? Thanks for any tips or advice

Not looking forward to all this work LOL!

You don't have to pull the diff to change the seals, but you do have to pull the CV so you'll want to read up on that. The seal change is easy once you get the CV axle out of the way.

I just did rack bushings on my '99 with everything in place an it was not all that bad. Feels great to (on the road not on the knuckles).

Add a signature with the year of you truck so you don't have to mention it all the time to get assistance.
Good luck.

Awesome that makes me really happy. I've had that CV out before but for some reason never looked to see where the seal was located. With everything in place I was able to get the driver side bushings out today without any stress. Now its time for the passenger side bushing which should be easier

I was ready to rip the whole thing out until you mentioned that. Thanks a bunch!

I'd go ahead and reboot/regrease the CV shafts and upgrade the bands on them while you had them out.

CV's are only a year old but they are the NAPA brand (installed by PO). I've hammered on them pretty hard up to this point but I think I will re-boot the OEM shafts I have and reinstall them using the NAPA's for spares. Thanks for the reply.

What year is your 100? The early racks have the big D bushing on the passenger side. I just changed mine out. It was beat up after 14 years and 160k miles. New bushing made a huge improvement as I have no freeplay at interstate speeds now.

Aug 02 on they went to mini shackle bush type in front of the rack instead of D on one end.

We have just made new mounting brackets for the racks in 02 on units, as more power, and bigger wheels, and diff gears = torque steer, and toe in, which pushes the rack up, and makes them chnage lanes.

Our new brackets fix this issue.

8500# trucks on 35's with 4.88 gears in diesel that do 7.8 sec 0-64mph [0-100kph] torque steer like a beeaaatttchhhhh with out them!

for the record, you need 150rw kw + and 740rw Nm or more to do that ;)

I ordered the same bushings and received them pretty quickly. Had Slee do the install since I read that the driver side bushings couldn't be done in place?? Either way, Slee took less than two hours, where I would have been cussing all day...totally worth it.

I had replaced just the passenger side bushing, but the rack still moved what looked like 1/2 an inch laterally due to the driver side bushings being shot. The steering is much tighter with the new poly bushings.

I need to do rack bushings on my '03 LX. Anyone tackle the later trucks bushings DIY yet?

new ones, easy to put in.

Need to use a cold chisel and hammer to get the old ones out, bitch of a job, will take at least 1 hr, with 45 minutes of that getting the old ones out.

Use a heavy duty washer on the top, if bigger tyres and lifted, as the standard ones will bend,a nd allow the rack to move.
