Time for CSC to purchase a club grill. We as a club are blessed that we have several members that like to cook and are very good at it. I also believe that a club grill will promote more family trips/activities.

Bman has done some research and suggested the SPG90B Big Gas Grill 3 - Camp Chef at ~$200. To be fair if you have a grill recommendation post a link and a cost and it will be considered.

Proposed rules - I know CSC doesn't have rules so how about a couple conditions

Grill to stored with the active president.
Grill can be used by any CSC member for personal use - condition return clean and propane bottle full or use your own.

This looks like the right grill for the job with the ability to be broken down and trasported easily. For the money this one looks like the best bang for the buck IMO.

Thanks again to Josh for carting around his big backyard BBQ and for Bman cooking up the tasty Carne Asada/Hatch chilis/cooked peppers

Good luck!

I agree, nothing brings people together like fresh hot BBQ at a campsite - it would be great to have a "portable" version vs the 150 lb+ version that I lugged up this weekend...I vote for the campchef, unless this version is available at a comparable price:

Why so sold on gas? Seems like charcoal would be both easier and safer to transport not to mention cheaper. I've been trying to find the big kettle ones like the dude on BBQ U uses. Add in some downed mesquite wood and you're off!

I would also agree with the charcoal, but would there be any restrictions possibly? I know up in the White Mountains when there are fire restrictions, you can only use a gas grill and not charcoal. Even at your home there. Just a thought.

Gas over charcoal? I put it to you like this... How long would it take from the truck to finish to fire up a charcoal grill and cook 400 hot dogs? I'll give a charcoal grill the benefit of the doubt and say it would only take 20 minutes to get the coals ready for cooking on. Then the slow cooking time... adding coal... tending the hot spots... Now, don't get me wrong, I love coal cooked meals, and the flavor that some nice wet mesquite adds to a steak or a burger or even a dog, but the types of cooking that it seems I'm always doing at camp calls for A LOT of heat right now and right where it needs to be. I had 60 dogs on the grill at the last Toyota Payete draw event in under 10 minutes and people were eating in under 20 minutes. The Camp Chef products are top notch gear. A purchase like this will likely outlast the club with proper care and maintenance. The predictability of propane and easy of use are much more appealing to me for a club grill. And if I'm really craving that mesquite smoked flavor I'll go soak some pods for a couple hours and add them to the grill in a small box or pan to smoke away under the hood while slow cooking whatever the choice of meat is for that event. One propane cylinder would be enough to cook for a couple days and takes up FAR LESS space than an equal amount of wood fuel or charcoal briquettes to cook the same amount.

Again, I love charcoal and wood fuel cooked food, just not for this type of application.

Anothyer disadvantage of charcoal is the lighter fluid flavor often left behind in the meat. You never get fuel flavor from propane.

As a famous seller of propane and propane accessories once said, "Propane, taste the meat not the heat."

EDIT***

I also suggest the carry bag as it has a storage pouch for the legs and windscreen. It will also prevent dust and dirt from getting all over and in the grill during storage and transport.

I agree with this proposal from Phil, second Brandon's comments, and third the nomination of the Big Gas Grill 3. Love charcoal cooking but not practical for the intended purpose.

Huge kudos to Josh and Brandon for the fine grill work this past weekend. Outstanding gentlemen! And Brittan to for the dutch oven work too.

Grills are definitely the center piece for large campouts and gatherings. That way everyone can congregate in one location rather than individual camp fires/spots. Brings the group/club closer for outings such as the Fossil Creek Clean up.

We might need to put some additional caveats about borrowing the grill on non-club runs in case of damage or theft. Just my 2 cents.

Great idea...be sure to get the carry case...so we can keep it all together.

Too bad If this was 6 months ago I would have donated one.
Instead I gave it to a ungrateful employee that no longer works for me.
I agree on the choice. lets get the rotisserie for the occasional road kill on the way to the trail:grinpimp:

I have a similar size gas grill that the club can have for free. It's a backyard style and has new briquettes. Not as handy as the fold down style in the OP, but it's free.

sams club has a stove, just like the camp chef 3 burner for about $160? it comes with a grill box and a few other things.

That sounds interesting. I'm not seeing it on the website though. Any idea of the manufacturer?

Stove from Costco, box from Sportsman's Warehouse..

Going on 5 years now, one of those "pat myself on the back" investments.

Are you going to donate it to CSC:idea: That would be nice:clap:

The whole reason to procure one is portability, schlepping that one sucked, home units aren't very trail friendly. :hillbilly:

That's pretty much exactly what the Big Gas grille is. 3 burners with a double burner box.
