Hi People,

I am doing the front swivel hubs on my HZJ78 troopy. I am doing both the drag ends (relay rod) and the tie rod ends (ball joints) as well. Can anyone give me the lengts for these rods once the drag ends and ball koints are fitted?

My book (Gregorys for landcruisers) says the tie rid end centres length is 1207 mm, but when I measure it my old length is about 1109mm centres (centre of the ball joint castle bolt)

Any help would be appreciated, I have to get her back together today for work tomorrow.

Regards

Chris

one of your rods could bent from a tree stump or offroading.

Thanks CLint,

Drag one is apparently 1035 and tie rod is 1110.

Went to the shopping centre with my trusty tape measure and climbed under some victorian tourists truck in the carepark at the shops and ran the measure over them. Bloody bitumen and exhaust was prety hot thought.

Thanks for your advice though cause I ran a level along my tie rod bar and its bent.... so need to source one tomorrow.

Appears the book is generic for a few models and they used an 80 series length or something...

Any way its all back together now so Chris is happy

Be good

I think majority of cruisers that see the bush have a bent one ,it's the fashion

Clint, yeah if you hadnt said anything about the bend I would never have checked it with the level. It looked not bad to the naked eye but there was a bend against the straight edge, (maybe I need glasses) I bet you it was a rock out at Litchfield NP on the old short cut. It is really washed out this year.

Aussie 25 I took your advice and tried a few methods, including physical bending, then jsut lay it on the garage floor and took to it with a mallet with a wood spacer. Probably could have been hit with the mallet, but I was trying to be cautious. Its pretty good now.

My steering is a lot tighter now and no wobble at 80k's so I am pretty happy

Chris

Mine was from a blackboy tree and bent it in a nice curve,
Depending on how bent sometimes tyre shops can adjust the wheel alignment to suit the bend and when you put a new one in or straighten your oem one out as Aus25 said get it realigned
