The depth in-to-out looks good to me, looks a bit low top-to-bottom...

I have .009 backlash at this point

They’re are used, and I used the same pinion depth shim. I replaced the all bearings and installed a solid sleeve spacer.

You put pressure on the ring while rotating the pinion?

As much pressure as I could with gloves on. Trying to devise a way to install an axle shaft on my bench so I can get some leverage on it

I stuff the heel of my palm in between the case and the ring gear. Then have someone else rotate the pinion.

Like Jason said put some good pressure and double check but that is a good pattern.
