Thoughts on Dobinson's Rear Bumper

The hitch crossmember is the limit to departure angle. Most bumpers including the factory plastic are pretty close to the hitch crossmember. The space behind the wheels to the rear has the exhaust, spare tire and some plastic pieces to hold the mud flaps and bumper plastic to. The look changes but departure angle stays pretty much the same. Just dragging on bumper metal instead of on the factory stuff.

that's true though if you're putting your wheels *on* the rocks instead of next to them then any improvement in the rear corners can still be a help, even if the center is still roughly the same.

Totally agreed. First mod I made was a rear bumper. Two big reasons- get the tire out of there and reduce damage potential as it is a when not if for dragging the rear.
I would have bought sliders first but at the time there were no options on that front.

From the pictures of SLEE and TT it looks like they are higher clearance behind the tires though. Sure at the hitch they might all be the same clearance, but having it at least taper to a higher clearance the closer it gets to the edge is definitely a benefit for wheeling and makes it look better IMO.

Sure every rear but the one titled in this thread has more space behind the wheels. That may or may not be useful in a particular situation, but it doesn’t change the departure angle much if at all.
Totally agree that an aftermarket bumper will give more utility but not really on the departure angle.
